Brooklawn Prepares For American Legion Final Four

Brooklawn is the lone team from the seven-county South Jersey area still in the running for an American Legion baseball state championship.
It’s down to the final four in the state for American Legion teams 19-and-under.
Brooklawn is certainly no stranger to being in this position.
No program in state history has won more state titles than Brooklawn, which earned its 32nd state championship in 2024 and lost to Cherry Hill in last year’s state final.
Brooklawn has also won four American Legion World Series championships in 1991, 2001, 2013 and 2014.
This year’s American Legion state tournament field consists of four teams, and all could make an argument for winning the state championship.
The state tournament is comprised of the four district winners, who will now play in the double elimination tourney beginning Monday on the artificial turf at Kean University.

Monday, July 27
Game 1: Whitehouse Post 284 vs. North Hamilton, 4 p.m.
Game 2: Allentown vs. Brooklawn, 7 p.m.
Tuesday, July 28
Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2, 1 p.m.
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2, 4 p.m.
Game 5: Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4, 7 p.m.
Wednesday, July 29
Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5, 4 p.m.
Game 7: (only if needed) Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6, 7 p.m.
The NJ State champion will then compete in the Mid-Atlantic Regional, Aug. 5-9 in Shrewsbury, Massachusetts.
Looking at Brooklawn
Brooklawn advanced by going 3-0 in the District 4 tournament which the franchise hosted at Joe Barth Sr. Field.
It all began with an opening 12-3 win over Broad Street Park Post. Anthony String, a rising junior at Bridgeton, earned the win.
The key win came in the second game, a 3-2 victory over Mullica Hill
A pair of rising high school juniors had strong mound performances with Gloucester Catholic’s Bobby Kleinow getting the start and the win and Gloucester’s Kevin Boulden earning the save.
Brooklawn then punched its ticket to the Final Four with a 4-1 win over the same Mullica Hill team as Hammonton rising senior Cooper Mull earned the complete game victory.
Brooklawn has received a great late-season burst from Guy Lynam, who missed the high school season following shoulder surgery. A third baseman by trade, Lynam was considered a potential MLB draft prospect before the injury.
He will attend Auburn and compete in the SEC, which has captured the last seven NCAA championships.
Lynam played left field in clinching win for Brooklawn. In the three district victories, Lynam went 4-for-9 (.444) with two triples and four RBIs.
Brooklawn has a lethal top of the order with recent Bishop Eustace graduate Dante Bell leading off, followed by Lynam and then recent Kingsway graduate Brett Throp batting third.
Boulden, who is also the quarterback at Gloucester, has been the cleanup hitter.
“With Guy, Bell and Thorpy, our lineup is pretty good,” said Brooklawn head coach Dennis Barth, whose father, the late Joe Barth Sr., started the Brooklawn franchise in 1952.
Brooklawn will be facing an Allentown team that also went 3-0 in winning District 3. Allentown, which won consecutive state titles in 2021 and 2022, beat Washington Township, 4-2 to clinch the district championship.
Hamilton North won District 2 by going 3-0. One of the wins was a 7-4 triumph over Cherry Hill, which won the regular season title in the Camden County American Legion League (with Brooklawn finishing second).
The fourth team in the state final four, Whitehouse Post 284, was the most impressive in district play. Whitehouse went 3-0 to win District 1, earning the three victories by an average of 11 runs per game.
