A Look At The Phillies Season-Ending Schedule

The Phillies have enjoyed a great August run and will need a major collapse to fall out of the wild card playoff picture. They are coming off a sweep of the Los Angeles Angels, winning two of the games in dramatic fashion.

The Phillies began a key series at wild card pursuer Arizona on Monday. Here is the look at the final schedule for the Phillies.

Aug. 31 – Sept. 2 at Arizona (three games)

Record this year with Arizona: (1-2).

Conclusion: If the Phillies even win one of three games, they would still be in decent position since they began the week leading Arizona by 4.5 games in the wild card race.

Sept. 4 – Sept 7 vs. Atlanta Braves (four games)

Sept. 11-13 at Atlanta (three games)

Record this year with Atlanta: (1-5).

Conclusion: The week began with Atlanta holding a five-game division lead over the Phillies with 26 to play. Atlanta would have to collapse to lose the division, but the Phillies need to fare well to show they can compete with the Braves, who have had their way this season over the Phils, outscoring them 32-16 in the six games.

Sept. 8 – Sept 10 vs. Houston (three games)

Record this year with Houston: (0-0).

Conclusion: The Astros are in a tight race in a weak AL West Division. In addition, since the division is so close, Houston could be a wild card club. So, this is not only the rematch of the 2022 World Series (and we know how that one ended), but also between two teams looking to punch a postseason ticket. That should make it a high-level series. It is also a chance for the Phillies fans to see AL Triple Crown threat Yordan Alvarez.

Sept. 15-16 vs. Washington (two games)

Record this year vs. Washington: (8-3).

Conclusion: The Phillies have had some wild comebacks against a National team that had been in the wild card race but has sputtered, going 17-25 since the All-Star break through Sunday. The Phillies have crushed the National bullpen and sweeping these two games against the slumping Nationals should not be overly difficult.

Sept. 17-20 at NY Mets (four games)

Record this year vs. the Mets (5-4).

Conclusion: Even though the Mets are out of contention, they have played the Phillies tough as the record shows and these games are always spiced with plenty of intensity. The Mets have also played well recently with a 21-19 record entering Monday through the All-Star break.

Sept. 22-24 vs. Milwaukee Brewers (three games)

Record this year with Milwaukee: (1-2).

Conclusion: Milwaukee is likely to earn a first-round playoff bye as one of the two best records in the NL. The Phillies hope that by the time this series takes place, that Milwaukee will have clinched and may not be playing all of its regulars. The most dominating performance this year against the Phillies was Milwaukee Cy Young Award favorite Jacob Misiorowski, who pitched a nine-inning complete game in a 6-0 win over the Phillies at Milwaukee on June 12. He allowed just one hit, struck out 15 and walked none. The Phillies wouldn’t mind missing Misiorowski this series.

Sept. 25-27 vs. Tampa Bay (three games)

Record this year with the Rays (0-0).

Conclusion: Entering Monday, Tampa Bay comfortably had the best record in the American League. The Phillies hope that just with Milwaukee, the Rays may not be playing for anything in the final three games of the season. The Phillies hope that they have their playoff situation as well, so to rest some players before the postseason.
