Vegas Hags Pigskin Picks - Week 9

by G.Haggerty | Nov 10, 2001
Vegas Hags Pigskin Picks - Week 9 I finally got untracked last weekend. Let’s hope the roll continues this week. There are some good match - ups as the Eagles host the Vikings and the Colts host the Dolphins and a few surprisingly good match-ups with the Bears taking on the Packers and the Steelers taking on the Browns. This is what you call parity… This is the NFL…

Buffalo (plus 6) at New England
The Bills have been bad and Tom Brady has been a pleasant surprise for the Pats. Take the Pats at home, but don’t lay the points.
Patriots 24 - Bills 20

Miami (plus 3) at Indianapolis
This rivalry is always a crap - shoot. The Colts run hot and cold and the Fish can’t seem to close anybody good out. Bet on the home team to put up enough points to win.
Colts 27 – Dolphins 23

Carolina (plus 17½) at St. Louis
The Rams should be well rested and healthier than they have been since the season began. Believe it or not, the Panthers always play the Rams tough. Rams win big, but not big enough to cover.
Rams 34 – Panthers 20

Dallas (plus 5) at Atlanta
Michael Vick may start in this one, but he’s not ready for prime time yet. Ryan Leaf should do enough to get the Cowgirls a W here in an upset.
Cowboys 24 – Falcons 21

Tampa Bay (minus 5) at Detroit
The winless streak contiues.
Bucs 20 – Lions 10

Green Bay (minus 2½) at Chicago
Even though it’s in the Windy City, I think the Bears run out of miracles this week.
Packers 26 – Bears 21

Kansas City (plus 4½) at New York Jets
I think the Chiefs have turned the corner under Vermiel and will make some noise as the year goes on. The Jets can’t win 2 in a row.
Chiefs 23 -Jets 20

Pittsburgh (minus 3) at Cleveland
Two teams that lost heartbreakers last week that should be out for blood this week. In a continuation of a great old rivalry re-born, take the Steelers in a tight one.
Steelers 17 – Browns 13

Cincinnati (plus 4½) at Jacksonville
Two mediocre teams that have shown no consistency. The home team should squeek by in a “who cares” game.
Jaguars 28 – Bengals 24

San Diego (plus 6) at Denver
The Broncos and Chargers both need a bounce back game to be able to even think about staying close to the Raiders. The better team is Denver.
Broncos 23 – Chargers 20

Minnesota (plus 4½) at Philadelphia
A great test for the Eagles as they play an improving Vikings team at the Vet. If the Eagles can get the offense going a little against the poor Vikings D, they should be able to hold on for the win. If the Vikings get out fast, look out.
Eagles 27 – Vikings 24

New Orleans (plus 3) at San Francisco
I just don’t think the Saints can get it done right now with Aaron Brooks. Their D will be tough, but the Niners will still put up too many points for Brooks to deal with.
49ers 24 – Saints 20

New York Giants (minus 5½) at Arizona
The Giants need this one badly, but I have a feeling they won’t break out of their funk in the desert.
Cardinals 19 – Giants 17

Oakland (minus 6½) at Seattle
The Raiders are the best team in the AFC right now, but a let down could occur here after 2 big wins against the Eagles and Broncos. The upset of the week has the Seahawks in an ugly one.
Seahawks 22 – Raiders 20

Baltimore (minus 2) at Tennessee
The Ravens haven’t played great, but are right in the thick of the Central race. The Titans need another huge win to stay close. Motivation wins this one.
Titans 16 – Ravens 14

Record:
Last week – straight up: 10-4, Against the spread: 10-4
Year to Date - straight up: 66-45, Against the spread: 55-56
