MTV Welcomed Back to Jersey Shore

MTV Welcomed Back to Jersey Shore SEASIDE HEIGHTS, N.J. April 4, 2002 — MTV has received permission to return to the Jersey Shore if it wants.

Seaside Heights officials approved a special events application Wednesday that would allow the music video cable network to stage its "Summer Share" show in the Ocean County town.

MTV officials, though, have not yet selected a site for the show. Borough Administrator John Camera said Wildwood and several towns on New York's Long Island are also in the running.

Seaside Heights was the site of an MTV show during the summer of 1998, which was broadcast from a home on the north end of the boardwalk. The show featured regular beach parties which drew large crowds, and Borough Councilman Robert Giles said the show's impact is still being felt.

"You can hear people by the old site saying that this is where the MTV house was, and they get their picture taken in front of the mural on the wall that they left for us," Giles told the Asbury Park Press of Neptune for Thursday's editions. "It was a great time."

If MTV returns, it will use one of two borough-owned locations on the northern half of the boardwalk rather than a house. In 1998, some other homeowners complained about noise and commotion.
