Cherry Hill Civilian Fire Academy

This will mark the 5th consecutive year for this very successful program. Free to Cherry Hill residents, the original course was held in 1997 and was so well received, the Fire Department decided it had to continue.
The five classes consist of simulated fire training, cardio-pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification, fire prevention and general safety lessons and a graduation ceremony where all attendees will be issued a certificate and receive a class photo and related items to help celebrate completion.
In the simulated fire training, attendees actually get to "gear up" and are guided through a very hands-on simulated fire at the department’s training facility. A 1998 attendee commented, "It is really eye opening just how much is involved in even a simple fire. It was a great experience." A general kitchen fire safety exercise allows participants to actually put out a small stove fire.
On the last night of class, the graduation ceremony takes place where the Fire Chief issues certificates of completion and other items that reflect the strong traditions of the fire service.
This is a great opportunity for any resident wanting to get a feel for a very challenging career. The classes will run on Thursday nights starting May 2nd, from 7 to 9 PM, and are limited to the first 25 participants. Refreshments are provided at each seminar Deadline for registration is April 25th, 2002 and if history is any judge, the classes fill up quickly, so don’t wait!!
