Storms Leave Damage

Storms Leave Damage The sudden downpours blinded drivers on the highways and left large puddles of standing water. Shoppers and other pedestrians ran for cover as the storms moved in. At one point, a tornado warning was posted for the Great Valley area in Chester County along the route 202 corridor. Fortunately, the squall line breezed through with no reports of damage.

That wasn't the case in Manahawkin, New Jersey where part of an emergency room ceiling collapsed at Southern Ocean County Hospital. The 10-food by 15-foot section came down over the nurses' station. No one was hurt, but water poured in leaving the emergency room flooded. The patients were transferred to other parts of the hospital and incoming cases were diverted to other hospitals.

In Voorhees, New Jersey, the storm knocked out power for about 15-hundred customers. Police had to man the intersections where signal lights were out.

Some made the best of it, like this family dining by candlelight at a restaurant...but the darkness didn't last long and the lights came back on before desert.

At one point 21,000 PECO customers lost their power in Pennsylvania like here in Haverford Township.

The gusty winds took their toll on trees throughout the Delaware Valley. One came down across Ford Road near Chamounix in Wynnefield Heights.
