Ice Cream Vendor Feud

Ice Cream Vendor Feud An ice cream vendor arrested Monday after brawling with another vendor in a sales turf dispute must stand trial on an aggravated assault charge.

A municipal court judge ordered Rahsed Awaadeh, 50, of Paterson, to stand trial in state Superior Court.

He is accused of beating Shiam Daoud, also of Paterson, after the two quarreled about a prime parking spot near a popular park.

Authorities determined that Awaadeh did not have a permit to sell ice cream in town. The permit was actually issued to his boss, Jehad Alquadah of Toms River, who was charged with allowing someone else to use it.

"Very frankly, it was a turf war, and he had no right to the turf to begin with," said Ramsey Police Director Joseph Delaney. "Anyone with that kind of propensity for violence, we don't want in Ramsey, that's for sure."

Police were called to Finch Park by two witnesses who said they saw Awaadeh leave his Mister Ice Cream truck and attack Daoud inside her Good Humor truck.

Awaadeh said Daoud instigated the fight, but she said he was the aggressor, pummeling her with his fists and sandals.

"He twisted my arm all the way down," she said. "He hit me in the face more than 12 to 15 times with the black shoes."
