Severe Weather Advisories

Here is the text of the Urgent Weather Message from the National Weather Service, Mount Holly:
Summertime Heat And Humidity Have Moved Into The Region This Week... With A Steady Build Up Of Both Expected Through Wednesday And Thursday. Heat Index Values...Which Measure The Combined Effect Of The Heat And Humidity...Are Expected To Reach Or Exceed 100 Degrees On Both Wednesday And Thursday.
Persons In Highly Urbanized Areas Under The Warning Are Especially At Risk During This Event. Another Contributing Factor Is The Relatively Cool And Damp Spring Weather We Have Had. People Have Had Little Or No Opportunity To Acclimate To The Increasingly Hot And Humid Conditions.
A Heat Warning Is Issued When High Humidities Are Expected To Combine With Hot Temperatures To Make It Feel Like It Is 100 Degrees Or Greater For Several Days. Persons In The Advisory Area Are Advised To Avoid Prolonged Work In The Sun...Or In Poorly Ventilated Areas. Also...Keep Plenty Of Liquids On Hand And Try To Stay In An Air Conditioned Environment. Wear Light Colored/Light Weight Clothes.
Children...The Elderly And People With Chronic Ailments Are Usually The First To Suffer From The Heat. Heat Exhaustion...Cramps...Or In Extreme Cases Heat Stroke Can Result From Prolonged Exposure To These Conditions. Friends...Relatives Or Neighbors Should Check On People Who May Be At Risk.
Finally...Please Remember Pets And Other Domestic Animals. They Need...At A Minimum...A Shaded And Well Ventilated Environment And Access To Plenty Of Cool Water.
