SJ Orgs: The Arc of Burlington Co.
The Arc Adult Day Program serves people over 21 years old with developmental disabilities seeking a program to help develop personal and social skills. The program blends on-site and community activities to provide a broad experience. Many members become interested in working or volunteering in the community. The Arc also has developmental programs for children through the Learn-A-Way Child Development Center. The four-day a week program provides education and development to children newborn to 3 years old who are experiencing mental, physical or emotional difficulty.
For young adults, the Arc summer camp is a 4-week program in August for campers 13 to 21 years old. Attendees can enjoy socializing, horseback riding, arts and crafts and outings at Camp Renape.
The Arc recreation program offers several activities such as dances, night-out dinners, bowling, picnics and swim parties. Upcoming events include:
The Arc annual picnic and barbecue will be held on Saturday, August 2nd from 2pm to 6pm at Learn-A-Way in Hainesport. The day includes swimming, volleyball, badminton, dancing and music. There is a $2 admission fee that includes all activities and a barbecue dinner.
The Fall Frolic will be held on Friday, October 17th from 7:30pm to 11:30pm. There will be dancing, food, prizes and a live DJ. The event is $35 per person and will be held at Cater 2-U on Marne Highway at Creek Road in Mt. Laurel. All proceeds will benefit the Arc of Burlington County. There will also be an ad book available for community attendants to advertise their business or themselves.
If you’re interested in helping the Arc of Burlington County there are several ways you can donate. Fundraising opportunities include:
Monetary donations can be sent to The Arc of Burlington County, One Underwood Court, Unit 2, Delran, NJ 08075. Many of the members do not have enough money to pay for field trips and events and as a result cannot attend all of the developmental activities. If you’re interested in donating specifically for this purpose, please mark your check with ‘Recreation Sponsor.’
If you have an old car that you’re dying to get rid of, why not donate? The Arc will pick up your car and take it an auction. You will receive a receipt for tax purposes and the Arc will use the funds to help the program. If you’re interested in this opportunity, please contact (856) 764-9494.
The Arc Thrift Shoppe and Craft Shoppe work hard to collect donations to benefit the organization. Thrift Shoppe manager Estelle Kleiner maintains the store and sorts donations. With a volunteer-based staff, the store constantly needs volunteers to help stock shelves, run the cash register and sort donations. All proceeds benefit the Arc as a whole instead of a specific program. If you’re interested in volunteering at the store, contact Arlene Miller at (856) 764-9494. The Thrift Shoppe is located in Plaza 38, Route 38 West in Hainesport. For directions, contact (609) 518-9397.
If you’re a craft-lover, come shop at the Arc Craft Shoppe, featuring original designs by the Arc members that participate in the summer camp or adult day program. The crafts are unique and affordable. The shop is located in Rancocas Woods Village Shops, 123 Creek Road in Mount Laurel. For more information, contact (856) 642-1241.
