SJ Towns: Collingswood The township of Collingswood serves more than 14,000 residents with a myriad of educational and cultural activities. Located near Camden and Philadelphia, Collingswood is a wonderful suburban alternative to big city living. Collingswood has several activities for residents every month to bring together the community. Upcoming events include the following:

Are you an avid reader? The Collingswood Book Festival will be held on Saturday, October 11th, from 10am to 4pm. The festival will have crafters, book vendors, music and 15 local authors including Eric Denzenhall, author of Jackie Disaster; and Dan Gutman, author of popular children’s books The Kid Who Ran For President, Babe & Me: A Baseball Card Adventure, and Jackie & Me. As a large supporter of literacy, the Collingswood Community Book Club has announced their first selection Seabiscuit: An American Legend by Laura Hillenbrand. The book club will meet at the Book Festival on October 11. The book can be purchased at Burnt Toast Books and Toys, 697 Haddon Avenue, (856) 854-7088. It can also be found at the Collingswood Library between Haddon and Fraser Avenues.

On Saturday, October 18th, Collingswood will hold its annual Block Party on the 600 block of Collings Avenue. This event will include the popular Chili Contest and Chowder fest. The Collingswood Public Safety and Awareness Day will be held on Sunday, October 19th. Co-sponsored by the Camden County Prosecutor's Office and the Collingswood Police Family Auxiliary, the free event offers public safety demonstrations, information and educational activities. The day will also include police car rides, helicopter displays, food, and the Second Annual Golf Ball Drop. The event will be held in Knights Park, on the corner of Park Avenue and Browning Road from 11am to 5pm. All proceeds benefit the Collingswood Police Family Auxiliary and the STAR Program. The Collingswood Community Theatre offers an opportunity for talented art-loving residents to perform in a production. The next upcoming show is Steel Magnolias on Thursday, November 20th and Friday, November 21st. The show will be held at the Collingswood Community Center.
