by Press Release | Feb 22, 2004
Get `Ice and Toasty` in BurlCo Burlington County will host its first “Ice and Toasty” Winter Event with dog sled demonstrations, chowder, bonfire and children's activities on Sunday, February 29th at Historic Smithville Park in Eastampton.

The free event will be held from noon to 4pm, both outdoors and inside Smithville Mansion. It will include a DJ, horse-drawn wagon rides, magician, winter animal presentation by Paws Farm Nature Center and birthday party for “February” the Moose--mascot of H.B. Smith, former owner of the Smithville Industrial Village.

“The winter event should be a lot of fun for both children and parents. This event replaces our President's Day Celebration last February and we hope to make it an annual event at Smithville like the County's popular Earth Fair, Articulture Festival and Fall Foliage Family Float,” said Freeholder William S. Haines, Jr.

Dog sleds will be demonstrated by Jersey Sands Sled Dog Racing Association.

The “Winter Animals from Around the World” presentation will feature a chinchilla, silky chicken, corn snake, hedgehog, and a bearded Dragon (lizard).

There will be children's activities, which include a snow goose hunt and puzzle with the word “moose” in 24 languages.

“February's” birthday party will include a cake, photos taken with a costumed moose, storytelling, games and crafts. Adults also can “adopt” a moose through a zoo program and receive a stuffed moose with photo frame through the mail.

Food, including French toast, s'mores and hot chocolate will be free.

Smithville Park is located on Smithville Road, just three-quarters of a mile off of Route 38 in Eastampton,
