Lennon Educational Bus at McGuire
The USO has sent the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to McGuire Air Force Base, Wrightstown, NJ on April 26-27, to provide hands-on opportunities to military personnel and their families to learn about music, video and multimedia technologies. USO World Headquarters and other affiliated USO Centers are coordinating similar visits in several states across the country during the spring. A non-profit, state-of-the-art mobile recording studio, the Tour Bus is outfitted with musical instruments and the latest recording and video equipment. Conceived in 1998 by Brian Rothschild, the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus is an offshoot of the John Lennon Songwriting Contest, an annual international competition for amateur and professional songwriters.
This is the second year for this USO tour, which made stops to Massachusetts, Florida, Texas and Georgia in 2003. Last year, hundreds of military members and their families were able to tour the unique tour bus led by three on-board engineers and learn first-hand about music and multimedia production.
In addition, eight individuals will be chosen to spend a day on the Bus recording an original song and video. Participants will be given a Maxell CD-R of their fully edited original music video. Maxell products and United Entertainment music magazines (including Keyboard, Guitar Player and Bass Player) also will be provided by the John Lennon Educational Tour Bus to all visitors of the Bus.
The Tour Bus travels the country year-round and is designed to encourage students to play music, write songs, engineer recording sessions and produce music videos. These free programs have been provided to hundreds of high schools, colleges, Boys and Girls Clubs, musical festivals, concerts, conventions and community organizations.
