A Different Approach to Property Tax Relief

"Property taxes are one of the most important issues facing New Jersey families, and I was proud to vote in favor of this measure," said Senator Adler (D-Camden).
The new law (P.L. 2001, c.44) reduces the pension payments by government employers to the Police and Firemen`s Retirement System this year from $225 million to $75 million through a revaluation of the system`s assets.
"The most impressive thing about this legislation is that the money must be spent on property tax relief," said Senator Adler, who has also sponsored legislation calling for a statewide constitutional convention to address New Jersey`s reliance on property taxes. "Property taxes are a long-term problem in New Jersey, but this measure provides some short-term relief while we look into the larger problem." Under the measure, the following towns in Senator Adler`s district will be receiving property tax relief:
