South Jersey Football Games of the Week
Here are the state semifinal matchups involving South Jersey teams.
Friday
Group 5 state semifinal
Kingsway (10-2) at Washington Township (12-0), 6 p.m.
These two teams met on Oct. 17 with Township winning 39-36. In that game Kingsway led by 12 points with under seven minutes remaining before the Minutemen stormed back. Township won its second straight sectional title with last week’s 38-7 win over Old Bridge in the Central Jersey Group 5 championship. Andrew Osborn led the way with three touchdowns. The Minutemen have scored 38 or more points in eight straight games. Kingsway had one of the more impressive wins last week, defeating top seeded Atlantic City, 38-21 in the South Jersey Group 5 championship. Top running back Cole DeNick rushed for 167 yards but left the game with an ankle injury. Last year Township lost to Toms River North, 27-10 in the state semifinal. North was a true powerhouse and earned its third straight state title last year.

Burlington City (11-1) at Glassboro (12-0), 6 p.m.
Malachi Sadler was a big-play performer in Burlington City’s 28-20 win over Shore Regional in the Central Jersey Group 1 final. Sadler returned a punt 42-yards for a touchdown and also had a 59-yard interception return for a touchdown. City’s only loss was 8-0 to a Burlington Township team that was the No. 1 seed in South Jersey Group 3. Glassboro hasn’t lost a game since 2023. The Bulldogs increased their win streak to 25 with a 47-14 win over Schalick in the South Jersey Group 1 final. Amari Sabb scored four touchdowns for the defending Group 1 state champions.

Haddonfield is coming off a 28-7 win over Delran in the South Jersey Group 2 title game. Brody Leonard rushed for 201 yards and four touchdowns. Haddonfield’s toughest postseason game was a 20-14 double overtime first-round win over Willingboro. Camden defeated Wall, 43-7 in the Central Jersey Group 2 final. Ahmad Jones threw three touchdown passes for the winning Panthers. Camden won five in a row, while Haddonfield has earned six consecutive wins

Cedar Creek is coming off a wild 34-28 win over Mainland in the South Jersey Group 3 championship. Quarterback Frenchmon Bethea hit receiver Gyan King on a 65-yard scoring pass with 21.6 seconds left for the game-winning touchdown. Holmdel has been an offensive machine. The Hornets beat Seneca, 41-20 in the Central Jersey Group 3 championship. Holmdel has won six in a row and averaged 46.6 points during that time.

Winslow Township is the defending Group 4 state champion. The Eagles have won nine in a row after last week’s 53-14 win over Millville in the South Jersey Group 4 championship. Junior Jalen Parker threw for 228 yards and four touchdowns, including the 100th of his career. The two losses were to national power IMG Academy and one of New Jersey’s top teams, Bergen Catholic. Brick Memorial defeated Middletown North, 28-0 in the Central Jersey Group 4. It was the first shutout this season for Brick, which has won seven in a row.
