Recapping the Division races in South Jersey H.S. Baseball
There were some great divisional baseball races in South Jersey. Here is a recap of all the division winners.

Burlington County Scholastic League

Freedom Division

Doane Academy (8-0) was the division champ, while Pemberton (6-2) finished second. In its two meetings, Doane Academy beat Pemberton, 14-4 and 9-2.

Independence Division

Westampton Tech (8-0) won by three games over Medford Tech and Moorestown Friends, which were both 5-3.

Liberty Division

Northern Burlington, the defending state Group 3 champion, won the division with a 6-0 mark. Delran and Burlington Township each were 3-3.

Patriot Division

Pennsauken (6-2) won a tight race, beating out Bordentown (5-3). The champion Indians split two games with Bordentown, earning a 3-0 victory in nine innings in their most recent meeting. In that game starting pitcher Kevin Batista didn’t figure in the decision, but he allowed just three hits in six innings, while striking out 13.

Cape Atlantic League

American Division

St. Augustine (12-0) won handily, with over runner-up Vineland (8-4). Mainland (7-5) got a measure of revenge by winning the Cape Atlantic League tournament, beating St. Augustine, 7-1 in the semifinals and Egg Harbor Township, 9-6 in the final.

National Division

Absegami and Egg Harbor Township shared the title with 10-2 records. Holy Spirit was the third team with a winning division record, finishing 8-4.

Colonial Conference

Liberty Division

Haddonfield (7-1) won convincingly. Rival Haddon Heights (4-4) placed second. The two teams split some high scoring games, with Haddon Heights winning at Haddonfield, 9-8 and Haddonfield winning at Haddon Heights, 9-5. In the win over the Garnets, Haddonfield’s James Rowe went 2-for-4 with a run scored and RBI and earned the victory allowing three earned runs and striking out seven in four innings.

Patriot Division

This was a great race. Sterling and Haddon Township tied for the title with 6-2 records and Gateway was right behind at 5-3. Sterling clinched its share of the title with a 4-2 win over Gloucester as Nate Schwarz pitched a complete-game four-hitter while striking out nine.

Olympic Conference

American Division

Shawnee (7-3) edged out Cherry Hill East (6-4) for the title. The Renegades clinched the title with a 9-2 victory over Rancocas Valley as Kayden Maybury and Tim Dougherty combined on a five-hitter. This was such a competitive division that each of the six teams had at least three wins and four of the six were .500 or better in the division.

National Division

Bishop Eustace (9-1) won the division yet again. It was the Crusaders’ ninth consecutive National Division title. Cherry Hill West finished second with two losses. Eustace lost its second division game of the year to Cherry Hill West, but then won its final eight, including an 8-0 rematch victory over West as JJ McLaughlin earned the win, allowing three hits in five innings while striking out eight.

Tri-County Conference

Classic Division

Pennsville went 8-0 to win the division by two games over second place Wildwood.

Diamond Division

Schalick (7-1) edged out Woodstown (6-2) for the division title. The champion Cougars avenged an earlier 9-6 loss to Woodstown, to beat the Wolverines, 4-3 in the rematch.

Liberty Division

Delsea, which entering the week had earned a berth in the South Jersey Group 3 semifinals, tied for the title with Cumberland, both at 8-2. It was quite a turnaround for Cumberland, which went 5-19 overall and 2-8 in the Liberty Division last year.

Royal Division

This was among the better divisions in South Jersey. Gloucester Catholic went 8-1 to clinch the title, two games ahead of second place Kingsway. The champion Rams’ lone division loss was 8-4 to Clearview, but Gloucester Catholic beat the Pioneers twice, including in the Joe Hartman Diamond Classic championship game.
