SJ Schools - Lenape High School Lenape High School, located in Medford, opened its doors in 1958 and currently serves approx. 2106 students. Although this school has numerous clubs and activities, we only have room to highlight a few this week.

We’ll start with the Web Club, also known as H.A.L. The Lenape Web Club was started several years ago and consisted of five students and one teacher (Mrs. Nist – who is no longer at Lenape) who created Lenape’s first web site. The club is now made up of students from all classes and backgrounds, and they are solely responsible for maintaining the school’s presence on the Internet. Meeting once a week the club discusses ways to improve the quality of the school’s site. The constantly evolving web site has won several awards for the students including a brand new Apple Macintosh G3 server to host Lenape's web site. Currently under the direction of Mr. Nicholas, a band teacher at Lenape, the Lenape Web Site is sure to keep going strong and win even more awards than before.

The Peer Mediation group at Lenape is another club, and is run by advisors Beth Freedner and Jaye Halpern, and the purpose of this club is to help students resolve disputes in a peaceful and confidential manner. The student mediators are nominated by the faculty, interviewed, and trained. They then meet with students who are in conflict and try to help solve the problem at hand in a peaceful manner.

Perhaps the most notable programs at Lenape, is the Renaissance Program. Renaissance is a national incentive program sponsored by Jostens. The Renaissance Program seeks to reward academic excellence, student improvement, character and attitude - Renaissance also provides recognition of principal's list, perfect attendance, national merit scholars, and staff recognition. The program is supported by numerous local businesses, who donate time, products and even money to help Renaissance motivate students to reach full potential and reward them for their achievements. If you would like to participate in this program, contact Pat Johnson, Pat Costello, or Linda Sharon at 609.654.5111.

As you can see, Lenape has come a long way since opening it’s doors in 1958, and from the looks of things will continue to educate and motivate South Jersey students long into the future.
