West Deptford High School
West Deptford High School offers a comprehensive program of studies to its ninth through twelfth grade students from West Deptford Township. Classes in areas such as Applied Technology, English, Fine Arts, Mathematics, Physical Education/Health, Science, Social Studies, Special Education and World Languages are offered.
West Deptford High School also offers an advanced placement program to its students, and currently enrolls over 10 percent of its student body in at least one of the AP courses offered, including English, History, Chemistry, Physics, Biology, Music Theory, Psychology, French and Spanish.
Additionally, West Deptford offers many sports, including basketball, cross country, field hockey, baseball, softball, football, soccer, tennis, cheerleading, bowling, swimming, wrestling, winter track, golf, lacrosse and track and field.
The following students were recently named Fall Sports Leaders in West Deptford High’s Talon Newspaper: WDHS Field Hockey: Amy McKeever, Kara Heiniger; WDHS Boys’ Soccer: Timothy Wentz, Ryan Kelly, Jake Perry; WDHS Football: Cody Mroz, Daniel Short, Michael Pacitti, Nicholas Iraldi, Kenneth Tamasitis; WDHS Girls’ Cross Country: Alyson Krause, Jessica Stanek; WDHS Boys’ Cross Country: Kevin Bond, Nicholas Persicketti, Donald Dennis; WDHS Girls’ Tennis: Kaitlin MacQueen, Jaelynne King; WDHS Cheerleading: Heather Hanlon, Shayna Goldberg, Mary Drinkhouse, Marissa Latorre.

The WDHS Marching Band is just one of the many organizations in the school. Throughout the fall they can be found performing at varsity football games, local parades, or competing against other area marching bands. The marching band travels throughout New Jersey, Delaware, Pennsylvania, and Maryland to perform, and they are the current (2009) Tournament of Bands, Group III State Champions, for the fourth consecutive year.
This year’s Marching Eagles officers include Drum Major Joshua Wallowitch, Assistant Drum Majors Talia Brocco and Katelynn Singiser, Color Guard Captain Nicole Olsen, Woodwind Captain Nikki Love, Brass Captain Cassandra Kipp, Battery Captain Christopher Cullen, Pit Captain Ian Dunn, Brass Lieutenant Christian Monsu, Color Guard Lieutenant Allie Stewart and Woodwind Lieutenant Maddie Magill.
West Deptford High School’s Renaissance Club rewards students for excellent academic performance and encourages parents and local businesses to get involved in the school community. 2009-2010 Officers include President Jared Bairstow, Vice President Kelly Szymborski, Treasurer Jim MacDonald, Secretary Briana Baud, and Fundraising Chair Brittni Matlack.
Key Club is another one of West Deptford High School's most popular organizations throughout the community. According to their Web site, Key Club is all about volunteering. Together with the Kiwanis Club of Woodbury, the organizations work to improve the quality of the community and the awareness of the importance of volunteerism. Officers include President Neil Kirschling, Vice President Nicole Love, Secretary Marcella Gottshall, Treasurer Diane Marchunt, and Editor Lea D’Angelo.
This year’s Senior Class has a lot to look forward to, including a trip to Florida, prom, and a chance to earn many scholarships for college. Class of 2010 officers include President Mark Kinsey, Vice-President Scott Bass, Secretary Chelsea D’Aiutolo and Treasurer Eryne Butler.
Congratulations on the West Deptford girls basketball team’s recent wins against Haddon Heights, Audubon, Gloucester County Institute of Technology, Pennsville, and Overbrook. Players this season include Alicia Barger, Lauren Boegly, Kelly Brewster, Tarryn Bundy, Tina D’Aitolo, Angel Hambrecht, Courtney Hitchner, Brittany Kiley, Megan Kirschling, Megan Knoblock, Katie Leahy, Kelly Lindsay, Kate MacQueen, Danielle McKeown and Andrea Schmitz.
Upcoming events at the school include an NHS Blood Drive, World Language Week, the Spring Musical, Eagles’ Nest Awards, Spring Arts Festival and Commencement, among many others.
