South Jersey Football Games of the Week
This week's top games will all be played this Friday, Oct. 4 at 6 p.m., with the exception of Riverside at Bishop Eustace which will take place at 7 p.m.:
Camden (4-1) at Winslow Township (5-0)
Winslow Township is coming off arguably the most impressive win of the South Jersey season, last week’s 35-7 win at Millville. These were considered the top two teams in South Jersey and the Eagles won going away. Sophomore Jalen Parker threw four touchdown passes. He has now thrown for 845 yards and 13 touchdown passes. Camden bounced back from a 23-12 loss to Holy Spirit, to beat Rancocas Valley last week, 44-27. Junior Christian Braxton rushed for 215 yards and two scores on 30 carries. For the season he has rushed for 489 yards (6.5 avg.) and four touchdowns.

Shawnee (3-2) at Cherokee (2-3)
These are two rivals from the Lenape School District who are both looking to secure postseason berths, with Shawnee in Group 4 and Cherokee in Group 5. Cherokee is looking to snap a three-game losing streak, following last week’s 18-15 loss to Atlantic City. Shawnee snapped a two-game losing streak with last week’s 28-14 win over Lenape. Even the losing team in this game figures to remain in contention for a playoff berth.

Willingboro suffered its first loss of the season during last week’s 28-0 defeat at Paul VI in a WJFL Continental Division game. Senior quarterback Sean Taylor has thrown for 10 touchdown passes for the Chimeras. Timber Creek is looking to bounce back from last week’s 24-7 loss to Delsea. Junior quarterback Tyrone Baker is a dual-threat while operating the Timber Creek offensive attack.

St. Augustine bounced back from a 21-7 loss to Winslow Township to defeat defending state Group 4 champion Mainland, 21-3 this past week. Julian Turney rushed for 136 yards and a touchdown. For the season he has rushed for 567 yards (6.3 avg.) and six touchdowns. Holy Spirit has won four in a row since an opening 35-0 loss to Millville. Last week the Spartans defeated Cedar Creek, 28-14 as Emir Hicks rushed for 143 yards and three touchdowns. Hicks has rushed for 358 yards (4.9 avg.) and four scores. The team with the better rushing attack will likely be the winner. Holy Spirit will be out to avenge last year’s 14-0 loss to the Hermits.

Senior Mekhi Simmons has been Eustace’s main offensive threat. He has rushed for 764 yards (7.8 avg.) and 10 touchdowns. Riverside is looking to snap a two-game losing streak, although the Rams were competitive in both defeats, falling to Burlington City, 34-22 and last week to Holy Cross Prep, 19-14.
