WJFL Announces New Two-Year Cycle
Every two years the West Jersey Football League changes its divisions. Teams that do well usually move up to a more competitive division and those that struggle, often go to a lesser talented division.
The new divisions have been announced and here are the ones that include teams from the seven-county South Jersey area.
American Division: Atlantic City, Kingsway, Millville, St. Augustine, Washington Township, Winslow Township.
Classic Division: Camden, Cedar Creek, Glassboro, Holy Spirit, Mainland, Ocean City.
Colonial Division: Burlington Township, Cherokee, Delsea, Pleasantville, Rancocas Valley, Shawnee.
Constitution Division: Delran, Haddonfield, Paul VI, Seneca, West Deptford, Willingboro.
Continental Division: Cherry Hill East, Eastern, Lenape, Northern Burlington, Pennsauken, Williamstown.
Diamond Division: Burlington City, Overbrook, Paulsboro, Pennsville, Salem, Schalick.

Patriot Division: Bordentown, Camden Catholic, Florence, KIPP Academy, Maple Shade, Riverside.
Royal Division: Clearview, Deptford, Holy Cross, Mastery Camden, Pemberton, West-Windsor-Plainsboro.
United Division: Gloucester Catholic, Haddon Township, Lindenwold Middle township, Palmyra, Wildwood.
Observations
· The American remains the toughest division. It includes a state champion (Winslow Township) and two sectional champs (Washington Township and Kingsway). In addition, St. Augustine and Atlantic City and Millville were South Jersey Top 10 teams.
· The Classic Division might have an argument with the American. It contains three state champions (Camden, Glassboro and Cedar Creek) along with a sectional finalist (Mainland).
· A truly balanced large school division consisting of Group 4 and 5 schools is the Continental. Using last year’s groupings, there are four Group 5 schools (Cherry Hill East, Eastern, Lenape and Williamstown) and two Group 4 schools, Pennsauken and Northern Burlington.
· The Constitution is among the best divisions of mid-sized to large schools. Haddonfield is the defending SJ Group 2 champion. The Bulldogs along with Seneca shared the Continental Division title last year. Paul VI was a division title winner two years ago. Delran was a South Jersey Group 2 finalist. West Deptford is the defending Patriot Division champion and may be better this season. Willingboro has a good young team that took Haddonfield into overtime before losing an opening round SJ Group 2 game.
· Even with Glassboro’s departure, the Diamond remains the top small-school division. Burlington City moves to the Diamond after winning the National Division last year. The other teams are Paulsboro (second to West Deptford in the Patriot), Overbrook and Pennsville, which both finished tied for third, behind West Deptford and Paulsboro in the Patriot. Salem and Schalick are the others in the division, and both were Group 1 playoff teams, with Schalick losing to Glassboro in the SJ Group 1 final.
