One last look at the South Jersey Girls Basketball Season
It was a highly successful South Jersey Girls basketball season, highlighted by the two state champions from the seven-county South Jersey area. Here is a look back at the season:

State Champs

State Champions: Lenape (Group 4) and Mainland (Group 3).

Mainland was the top team in the area. The Mustangs (31-1) didn’t lose to a team from the seven-county South Jersey area, with the only loss to perennial state power St. John Vianney. Mainland even beat Lenape, 50-46 in the regular season.

Lenape (26-7) got hot at the appropriate time, winning its final 15 games, and as outlined last week, the Indians allowed just 29.6 points in their six playoff wins, showing again the defense does indeed win championships.

South Jersey Championships

South Jersey Group 1: No. 2 seeded Wildwood 54, (4) Woodstown, 53

South Jersey Group 2: (2) Middle Township 47, (1) Cinnaminson 39

South Jersey Non-Public B: (1) Rutgers Prep 63, (3) St. Rose 42

Paul VI was the lowest seed to earn a berth in a South Jersey final.  The No. 7 Eagles beat No. 10 Immaculata, 80-27 in the first round, followed by a 52-48 win over No. 2 Trinity Hall in the quarterfinal. Paul VI then beat No. 6 Our Lady of Mercy, 78-43 in the semifinal before falling to eventual state champion Red Bank Catholic in the final.
