Wildwood Nixes Hermit Crab Sales

Wildwood Nixes Hermit Crab Sales Wildwood, New Jersey — Hermit crabs are pets that can`t be sold as souvenirs on the Wildwood boardwalk.

A judge in Cape May County denied a request yesterday to overturn the resort`s crackdown on sales of the crustaceans. He also said vendors who`ve sold them during previous summers are not exempt from the ban.

The ordinance banning boardwalk pet shops dates back almost 25 years. But Wildwood only started enforcing this summer when some vendors planned to sell iguanas.

Mayor Duane Sloan hopes to come up with an ordinance to exclude hermit crabs from the ban next year.
