New Jersey Doctor Killed by Falling Rock
Gloucester City, New Jersey September 6th, 2001 — A prominent New Jersey physician was killed when a rock the size of a grapefruit smashed through her windshield and struck her in the head as she was driving along Interstate 76 yesterday. State police say 44-year-old Michelle Battistini of Northfield, Atlantic County, was traveling northbound at about 6:15 Wednesday morning when she was hit. The impact caused Battistini`s car to drift right and collide with a van driven by Barry Thedford of Mickleton. Thedford pulled onto an embankment and was able to jump out just before Battistini`s car struck his van a second time.
Battistini served on the medical staff of the University of Pennsylvania Health System, and also served as a director of its Women`s Wellness Program.
