SJ Shore - Jazz It Up If you’re a jazz fan you should “boot, scoot and boogie” to the shore this weekend for the Cape May Jazz Festival, November 9 – 11. Nineteen bands will be performing throughout the weekend. Musicians including Big James Montgomery and the Chuck Mangione Quintet will be playing Friday night. Saturday’s schedule features a guitar workshop with Monnette Sudler and a voice workshop with Rebecca Parris at 10:00 a.m. At 11:00 a.m., there will be an improvisation with Gary Thomas on the trumpet. Concerts will continue throughout the day. Sunday 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. join Michael Garrett and the Blue-tones. The festivities end with a local jam from 1:00 – 4:00 p.m. Tickets range from $15.00 - $100.00. Call (609) 884-7277 or visit cape May Jazz

In between concerts, brush up on your history and embark on a self-guided “Discover Cape May Historic House Tour,” where you can enjoy nine elegant Victorian Bed & Breakfast Inns at your own leisure. Historic houses include The Canterbury Cottage Inn, Twin Gables, The Inn at Journey’s End, and the Linda Lee. The tour is open from 1:00 – 3:00 p.m. on November 10. Tickets are available at the Washington Street Mall Information Booth, $15.00 for adults and $7.50 for children under 12. (609) 884-5404

If you’re simply looking for some peace and tranquility, kick back and take in the shore’s beauty at the Ocean City Quiet Festival November 9-10. Activities include a nature walk along the beach on Friday at 11:30 a.m. with a luncheon following at the Chatterbox, and a free poetry reading Friday from 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. at the Arts Center. Show off your best friend (yes, your dog or any animal) at the Pet Pageant, where your $2.00 registration will benefit the Ocean City Humane Society. The pageant is part of the Quiet Entertainment Program on Saturday from 12:00 – 3:00 p.m. at the Library Atrium.
