SJ Shore - Cape May Christmas It will “be the best of times” for you when you visit “The 20th Annual Dickens Extravaganza” in Cape May December 2-4. Sunday night, Thespis, Etc. will perform “A Gilbert & Sullivan Christmas Carol.” Other events include a discussion of Dickens’ “Little Dorrit” with Dr. Jay Friedlin, 9:30 a.m. December 3. Visit the Inns and Taverns that contributed to Dickens’ works, December 3 at 10:30 a.m. A perspective on Victorian America with Bob Heinly will be presented at 2:30 pm. December 4 at 6:30 p.m. come dressed as your favorite Dickens character or in Victorian costume for dinner and a costume contest at the Washington Inn. “Here we go a Wassailing” to an Evening Wassail Tour at Cape May, running daily from November 30 – December 30. Enjoy the excitement of a festive trolley ride featuring a stop at the magnificently decorated Emlen Physick Estate. Guides will discuss Victorian Christmas traditions, and guests will receive refreshments and a gift. Your ticket will include admission to the “Antique Quilt exhibit at the Carriage House Gallery. Tours will last about 2 hours. Adults $15.00, children (3-12) $7.50. Reservations recommended (800) 275-4278 For more information (609) 884-5404. No tours available on Dec. 1, 8, 15, 24, or 25.

If you’d rather see Cape May on foot and get a little exercise at the same time, then try the “Taste of Christmas Tour.” The tour runs each Friday at 10:00 a.m. from November 30 – December 28. After the one hour tour, you will enjoy lunch at the Mad Batter Restaurant. Cost for tour and lunch is $20.00 for adults and $10,00 for children 3 – 12. No reservations required. The tour begins at the Washington St. Mall Information Booth.

Finally, if you prefer to explore on your own, The Christmas Candlelight House Tour is for you. Self-guided tours include Homes, Inns hotels and churches specially decorated for the holidays, Christmas caroling and strolling musicians, hospitality centers with delicious goodies, and admission to several famous Cape May sites.
