Bay Atlantic Symphony`s Love Potions

The Bay-Atlantic Symphony is proud to present a season brimming with romance, obsession, fire, simple elegance, and ardor. Philadelphia pianist Clipper Erickson returns to the BAS stage in a program devoted to love potions. Don Jose is smitten by Carmen's figurative potions (pun intended). In Der Freischutz, the devil himself casts a potion that leads the Huntsman Max off the path of winning his true love in a competition. It's all in the overture. Scriabin's intoxicating Piano Concerto is yet a further example of the composer's insistence that music and Eros are one. Too bad for us he only wrote one.
Piano soloist Clipper Erickson will add his acclaimed "divine power" to Bay-Atlantic Symphony's first of four performances this season. The Charleston News and Courier describe Erickson by saying, " It takes a pianist of almost divine power to render this sort of music…," Erickson is featured in recitals and with orchestras throughout the United States each year, and is one of a handful of pianists chosen for the roster of the Pennsylvania Performing Arts Tour. Erickson's discography includes "Without Borders" and "Woven Images".
The very personal, committed performances Conductor Jed Gaylin inspires and his deep connection with audiences and orchestras are commanding increasing attention. In 2002-03 Gaylin assumes two new posts: Principle Conductor of the Cape May Music Festival (NJ), where the Bay-Atlantic Symphony will be Orchestra in Residence, and Principal Guest Conductor of the Sibiu State Philharmonic in Romania. His performances in Romania have been met with overwhelming response from the orchestra, audience, and press. Past engagements have included the Naples Philharmonic in Florida, Aspen Music Festival, Orquesta Sinfónica de Guanajuato (Mexico), Moscow Chamber Symphony, The Gnessin Institute Orchestra (Moscow), and Filharmonia Pomorska (Poland).
Preceding the concert will be the informative and entertaining "Pre-Concert Conversation with the Conductor," at 3pm. It will feature commentary on the evening's music and examples played by members of the orchestra.
