Fly Dance Co to Perform

The Fly Dance Company, featuring five talented young men who can move magnificently to anything from James Brown to Debussy, will perform at the Rutgers-Camden Center for the Arts' Gordon Theater at 7 p.m. Friday, May 7.

Hailing from Houston, the troupe was formed in 1993 by the award-winning choreographer Kathy Wood who recruited street dancers to join her company and fuse a hip-hop sensibility with classical music. The formerly at-risk youths have since performed to a range of musical genres, before audiences around the world, perfecting their creative break-dance moves that combine gymnastics, grace and electrifying energy. Fly Dance was heralded by the Houston Press for "know[ing] how to sashay and hip-hop and muscle themselves across the floor like no la-di-da ballerina can."
