by Press Release | Aug 8, 2004
Symphony Receives Honors The Haddonfield Symphony, under the direction of Music Director Rossen Milanov, received two Citations of Excellence at the New Jersey State Council on the Arts annual meeting on Tuesday, July 27, 2004. This is the second consecutive year The Symphony has received these honors.

The citations are given to those institutions who meet the state’s standards of excellence, including artistry, operations, governance, and public benefit. The Symphony is a premier professional training orchestra, one of three in the United States who trains up and coming orchestral musicians and prepares them for the life of a professional musician. A large portion of The Symphony’s mission incorporates not only educating the musicians, but also bringing music education to schools in the Southern New Jersey region, including Camden, Burlington, and Gloucester counties, through their Music Matters! educational programs. The Symphony received one of their Citations of Excellence for these education initiatives. The other Citation of Excellence was awarded for their high performance standards and artistic talents, which have been praised by critics and audiences alike in New Jersey and Philadelphia.

At this same meeting, The Symphony was again designated a Major Arts Institution by the Arts Council. This is the third time The Symphony has been awarded this distinction, which recognizes the organization’s consistent history of artistic excellence, substantial programming, and public service. It distinguishes The Symphony as one of the anchor institutions in the State of New Jersey in enhancing the quality of life of its residents.

Trevor Orthmann, President of The Haddonfield Symphony, was delighted by the honors and commented, “It is such an honor to be recognized by your peers in the performing arts and the politicians of the state as an organization that is vital to the cultural landscape of the region. The Symphony, always striving for artistic and educational excellence, is fortunate to have received such high recognition for something we truly love to do.”

The mission of The Haddonfield Symphony is to maintain and support a symphony orchestra that provides training for tomorrow’s musicians, music directors, soloists, and audiences by presenting well-rounded, artistically excellent concerts and education programs, which contribute to enriching the cultural life of our global community.
