Mays Guitar Duo Performing

Mays Guitar Duo Performing Highlighting the sounds of lute and guitar, the Mayes Guitar Duo performs as part of the Rowan University College of Fine & Performing Arts Faculty Spotlight Series on Wednesday, November 10, 2004 at 8pm in Boyd Recital Hall. Featuring Joseph and Kathleen Mayes, the program will demonstrate the duo's versatility on these two classic instruments.

The first half of the concert, featuring music for lute, includes John Johnson's "Rogero"; Francesco da Milano's Canon for 2 Lutes; and Enriquez de Valderrabano's "Andreas Christi." Switching to guitar for the second half of the concert, the Duo performs Grant Gustafson's "Three Tangos"; Napoleon Coste's "Duetto"; Francis Kleynjans' "Maria Cantelina"; Frank Wallace's "Sketches"; and Manuel de Falla's "La Vita Breve."

Throughout his career, Joseph Mayes has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. He studied with world-renowned guitarists Andres Segovia, Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Jose Tomas, and has recorded four CDs. Mayes is currently head of Rowan's Guitar and Early Music programs.

Rowan alumna and adjunct professor Kathleen Mayes has performed with many well-known guitar and Renaissance ensembles including the Grove Guitar Quartet. She currently teaches in South Jersey and Philadelphia.

The Faculty Spotlight Series offers faculty members of Rowan's College of Fine & Performing Arts an opportunity to take center stage and showcase their work as performers.

Boyd Recital Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University. All Faculty Spotlight Series events are free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. For directions or additional information, call the box office at (856) 256-4545.
