Mayes Guitar Duo To Perform

Mayes Guitar Duo To Perform The Mayes Guitar Duo, combining the talents of Joseph and Kathleen Mayes, performs works from an international roster of 19th and 20th Century classic composers on Wednesday, March 22 at 8 p.m. in Boyd Recital Hall.

The concert includes Irishman Turlough O’Carolan’s “Captain Higgins,” “Kitty Magennis” and “Loftus Jones”; Bulgarian Atanas Ourkouzounov’s “Horo”; Slovak composer Johann Kasper Mertz’s “Tarantelle”; Croatian Ivan Padovetz’s “Grande Polonaise, Op. 18”; Italy’s Antonio Vivaldi’s “Preludio” and “Corrente”; Frenchman Pierre Petit’s “Tarantelle”; and Spain’s Sebastián Iradier’s “La Rubia de los Lunares Americana.”

Throughout his career, Joseph Mayes has performed extensively in the United States and Europe. He studied with world-renowned guitarists Andres Segovia, Carlos Barbosa-Lima and Jose Tomas, and has recorded four CDs. Mayes is currently head of Rowan’s Guitar and Early Music programs.

Rowan alumna and adjunct professor Kathleen Mayes has performed with many well-known guitar and Renaissance ensembles including the Grove Guitar Quartet. She currently teaches in southern New Jersey and Philadelphia.

Boyd Recital Hall is located in Wilson Hall on the campus of Rowan University. This concert is free and open to the public. Seating is on a first-come, first-served basis. For directions or additional information, call the box office at (856) 256-4545.
