Medford Lakes Education Foundation is hosting yet another spectacular Paddle Board Race and Family Fun Day. This day is filled with Paddle Board racing, Paddle Board Fun, Paddle Board Yoga and other activities. At 9am, the 4-mile Paddle Board Race will start, followed by the 4-person relay at 11am. Ghost-One Investigation Ghost-One, an experienced Pennsylvania paranormal research team, is hosting a full moon ghost hunt at Cape May’s original haunted house, the Physick Estate. 4th Annual George Mesterhazy Tribute Concert Come to Cape May Convention Hall to celebrate with friends and fans for the 4th Annual George Mesterhazy Tribute concert. The performance is an evening of selections from the Great American Songbook, under the direction of Barry Miles, featuring performances by some of George's favorite colleagues and dancers. New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players New Jersey’s premiere chamber ensemble, the New Jersey Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players, return to the festival to perform with their “Golden Age” string instruments Tuesday, June 9 at 8 p.m. presenting another program from the classical repertoire featuring: String Quartet No. 12 in C-minor, D. 703 (Quartettsatz) by Franz Schubert; String Quartet No. 12 in E-flat Major, Op. 127 by Ludwig van Beethoven; and String Quartet no. 12, Op. 96 (American) by Antonin Dvorak.. Historic Cold Spring Village is a wonderful place to visit. The Village will open Tuesdays through Sundays, from June 30 through September 6, 10am-4:30pm. Special events will be held every weekend from June 6 through September 30 (see list below). Currently, the Village Welcome Center is open Monday through Friday (closed on holidays) from 9am-4:30pm with free admission. The Village is open for free self-guided walking tours during those hours as well as on Saturdays from 11am-3pm. The Chronicle, a guide to HCSV, is available in the Welcome Center on weekdays and on the Country Store porch on Saturdays.
Their summer events schedule begins this weekend with the Free Cold Spring Country Fair! On Saturday and Sunday, June 6 & 7, stroll the Village's shaded lanes where arts, crafts and antiques vendors sell their wares. Historic Cold Spring Village is a non-profit, open air living history museum that portrays the daily life of a rural South Jersey community of the Early American era. Its mission includes the preservation of 26 historic Cape May County buildings, history education and heritage tourism. The Village is a museum for all seasons. During the summer months, interpreters in period clothing discuss and demonstrate the trades, crafts and lifestyles from the “age of homespun.” From October to May, the emphasis is on teaching history through school trips to the Village, classroom visits by the education department and interactive teleconferences with schools throughout the United States.

The Nature Center of Cape May always has lots of great stuff going on. They have daily and weekly events that cover a variety of activities and topics, and you’re sure to find something of interest for everyone in the family. Check out their calendar here. In addition to their regular events,
Birds, Bunkers & Brews, a guided Bike tour for everyone on Both sides of the Bay, will be held on Saturday, June 6 (rain date, June 7). This event is a very special tour designed for bird lovers, history enthusiasts, and beer aficionados alike. You don’t have to be a serious biker for this day long tour, beach-cruisers are fine, but it will be a full day jam packed with ornithological wonders, scenic wonders and historic vistas. Join naturalists from New Jersey Audubon’s Nature Center of Cape May and Cape May Bird Observatory for a very different sort of bird walk. This “walk” (really a ride) will depart from the Cape May County Airport’s Flight Deck Diner at 8:45, after an 8:00 A.M. optional breakfast. A short 2½ mile trek will bring us to Cox Hall Creek Wildlife Management Area where we’ll observe some of the many breeding birds that call this special place home, including nesting Prothonotary Warblers and Indigo Buntings. A series of ponds and a wonderful landscape of diverse regional fauna will complete the Cox Hall experience. After peddling a few leisurely miles along the preserve’s paved and gravel trails we’ll head south for about 4 miles along Bay Drive to the Cape May Lewes Ferry terminal where we’ll hitch a ride on a ferry to the other side. During the hour and half crossing we’ll scan the bay for transiting whales and dolphins, not to mention a plethora of water birds including terns, storm-petrels, osprey and much more. Once on the other side, we’ll explore our sister cape, Cape Henlopen State Park. Known as Fort Miles during WWII, Cape Henlopen was the most heavily defended site in the United States with its huge 16” 12” and 8” guns protecting the entrance to the Delaware Bay. The history buffs among us will marvel at the bunkers, fortifications and spotting towers, one of which is open to the public and offers an unparalled panoramic view of both Capes. If time allows, we might visit the Seaside Nature Center and the mile long fishing pier where a German U-Boat surrendered to the Delaware National Guard during the war. We’ll leave the Park via the Gordon’s Pond Trial and peddle 5 miles into Rehoboth Beach where we’ll sample some of the many brews at the world famous Dogfish Brewery. After lunch and rehydration, we’ll follow the Junction & Breakwater Trail another 5 miles back to Lewes where we’ll hitch our ride home across the Bay on the Ferry. The leisurely boat ride will give us the perfect opportunity to rest up for a final 5 mile push back to the County airport and that increasingly popular roost for local birders, the Cape May Brewing Company! Since this is our final destination, we can reward ourselves and update our checklists, one for the birds we saw, and a second one for the beers we tasted! Expect to cover approximately 30 miles throughout the day, but rest assured that frequent stops will enable us to explore natural and historical gems throughout both regions. Bring your own bike or bike rentals can be arranged. A wide brimmed hat, long sleeves, sun block, and water bottle are recommended. Pack refreshments and lunch, or bring money for our stops at the ferry terminals and breweries. Meet at the Flight Deck Diner at the airport at 8am for breakfast or simply arrive later for the 8:45am departure. Top quality lender binoculars will be available for anyone who needs them. The Nature Center of Cape May (NCCM) is situated on the rim of Cape May Harbor at 1600 Delaware Avenue in Cape May. One of seven centers operated by New Jersey Audubon, the Center provides family-oriented programming in the marine sciences and other nature oriented themes. Programs are scheduled throughout the year; public visitation is available seven days per week, April through October. Cape May Stage is back with Red Hot Patriot: The Kick-Ass Wit of Molly Ivins. The unsinkable Molly Ivins, Austin’s no-holds-barred newspaper columnist and best-selling author, tells it like it is in this side-splittingly funny play. Written by twin journalist sisters, Red Hot Patriot celebrates Molly’s courage and tenacity — even when a complacent America wasn’t listening — in a play that is nothing short of kick ass. Saturday, June 6, don’t miss the JDRF Wildwood Walk to Cure Diabetes. Check-in begins at 9:30am; the 3 mile walk begins at 10:30am on the Wildwoods Boardwalk at Morey’s Adventure Pier, 3720 Boardwalk, rain or shine. The JDRF Wildwood Walk to Cure Diabetes draws people together for a worthy goal: raising money to improve the lives of every person affected by Type 1 Diabetes (T1D) by accelerating progress on the most promising opportunities for curing, better treating and preventing T1D. Stock up on your summer reading by picking up a few bargains at the used books and media sale, hosted by the Friends of the Burlington County Library, Inc. through June 7 at the County Library in Westampton. Shoppers will find approximately 5,000 books for sale, mostly donated, plus an extensive collection of audio books on disc/tape, CDs, DVDs, CD-ROMS, and puzzles. Held in the library’s meeting room, the sale will be held Saturday, June 6 from 9am-4:30pm; and Sunday, June 7 from 1-4:30pm. In addition, a preview sale will be offered to members of the Friends group only on Thursday from 4-6pm. The Garden State Discovery Museum is a great place for the entire family to visit.

Howell Living History Farm is always a great adventure, with lots of exciting hands-on events for the entire family to enjoy.
Saturday, June 6, don’t miss Hog Weighing! The Howell Farm hogs will wade out of their wallows, shuffle down a chute and step onto the scales. The weigh-in is open to the public, which is invited to join farmers as they wash and weigh hogs, slop hogs, and of course, call hogs. Kids can help farmers with pig chores: mixing feed and filling wallows. Hog weighing will take placeduring the day. Prizes will be offered to visitors who come closest to guessing the pigs' weights.
Sunday, June 7, check out Edible & Medicinal Wild Plants, Walk & Talk, from 2-4pm. Enjoy a beautiful afternoon at Howell Living History Farm while Mercer County Stewardship Coordinator, Emily Rogalsky, leads you on a walk to learn about the variety of beneficial edible and medicinal plants that grow right in your backyard.

Check out Historic Paulsdale. Enjoy a beautiful afternoon tour, beginning with a 15-minute DVD presentation, The Life of Alice Stokes Paul, 1885-1977. Guests then walk around the porch to learn about the farm that once surrounded Paulsdale. Inside the house, visitors learn about the Paul family's daily life in the house, the restoration of the site, and its present day use as a girl's leadership center. Though the house has no period furnishings, there is plenty of history within its walls, including dozens of historic photographs and documents. Tours begin at noon and 1pm. It is recommended that you arrive 5-10 minutes before your tour to sign our guest book and pay for your tour at the gift shop. Please dress for the weather and wear comfortable shoes that can get dirty! While you’re there, be sure to check out our gift shop with plenty of great gift ideas. The Cumberland County Historical Society invites the public to visit Greenwich and tour the 1730 Gibbon House, located at 960 Ye Greate Street. Once inside the mansion, you will see the formal dining room, the “sitting room,” the kitchen with its huge, walk-in fireplace, and enjoy the demonstrations of hearthside cooking. On the second floor, you will see the exhibits of locally made, rush-seated “Ware” chairs and many children’s toys. Also open will be the Red Barn Museum, The Alan Ewing Carman Museum of Prehistory from Cumberland County, the Warren and Reba Lummis Genealogical and History Library, and the John DuBois Maritime Museum. Come and view the Swedish Granary and the Teaburners’ Monument, too! Regular visiting hours for the Gibbon House are Tuesday through Saturday, 1 – 4pm. Visiting the Indian King Tavern is like stepping back in time to the Colonial Era, with its period rooms, authentic décor and historical details. The Indian King Tavern is the location where the seal of New Jersey was adopted and where New Jersey became a state in 1777. It is now a museum and an important part of our state’s history.

Step back in time and take a tour of Pomona Hall, an eighteenth-century colonial mansion once home to the Cooper family. Tour Pomona Hall and the Camden County History Museum on Thursdays or Sundays, or by appointment. Tours begin at noon; the last one for the day begins at 3:30pm. The Battleship New Jersey is open for walk-up tours until 5pm. The Battleship’s summer tour hours will be in effect until Labor Day, Monday, Sept. 7. Guests can experience Fire Power tours of The World’s Greatest Battleship every day with the first tour of the day launching at 9:30am and the last tour each day departing at 5pm. Turret II Experience tours, a guided tour that brings guests five decks down to the bottom of the massive 16-inch gun turret, will continue to launch at 11am on Saturdays and Sundays.
Group Tours, Education Programs, Events and Meeting Space and Overnight Encampments are always available if reserved in advance. The tours of the Battleship New Jersey are interactive. You will be going up and down on ladders, stepping through passageways and sometimes maneuvering in tight spaces - just like the officers and the crew of the USS New Jersey did. Comfortable, flat shoes are strongly recommended. If you do not feel comfortable with a complete tour, you can enjoy a main deck tour, which does not have any ladders. They also offer video tours of the Battleship in the Wardroom Lounge on the Main Deck. If you are bringing a toddler or baby, you cannot bring a stroller aboard the ship, so you might want to wear a baby carry-on across your front to carry your baby.
Spend an Overnight aboard the Battleship! Our award-winning overnight encampment program is available for families, as well as scouts, youth groups, and more, throughout the year. Saturday, June 6: Stepping Out to Cure Scleroderma Allaire Village Walk. You can make a difference just by walking with family and friends! Please join us on June 6th for a fun-filled event at Allaire Village while raising awareness about scleroderma, a little known autoimmune disease that has life-altering consequences for those who are impacted by it. The only hope for advances in treatment and a possible cure someday is research. Our walks set out to provide support for patients and their families, as well as fundraising to change the future of this disease. A silent auction, individual and team awards, and prizes for monies raised will be included. Saturday, June 6, 2015 - registration at 9:30 am, walk starts 10:30 am. Sunday, June 7: Cancer Survivors Day at Washington Lake Park, 626 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road, in Sewell. Kennedy’s first-ever 5K run/walk – on a USATF-Certified K Course – which kicks off the day at 9:30am (registration 8am). The run/walk is followed by a celebration of life for cancer survivors from 11am to 2pm, featuring Refreshments, Musical entertainment, Family activities, Dunk tank, Giveaways and Vendors. A special Survivors Lap and Ceremony caps off the day, giving cancer survivors and friends a chance to connect with each other, celebrate milestones and recognize those who have supported them in their journey. All activities are open to the public. There is a $30 registration fee for the 5K run/walk – which includes a race t-shirt. Cancer survivors will receive a free commemorative “Survivors” t-shirt. Additional t-shirts will be available for friends and family members to purchase. Proceeds benefit the Center for Hope & Healing at Kennedy Health. Sunday, June 7: Paddle Board Race and Family Fun Day. This day is filled with Paddle Board racing, Paddle Board Fun, Paddle Board Yoga and other activities. At 9am, the 4-mile Paddle Board Race will start, followed by the 4-person relay at 11am. Register today at https://paddleguru.com/races/2ndAnnualStandUpForOurSchools. If you don’t have a board don’t worry! There will be plenty to rent. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 Men and the top 3 Woman finishers for the 4-mile race. Prizes will be awarded to the top 3 teams for the Relay race. The fun doesn’t end with the Paddle Board races - there will be many other activities as well. AAA South Jersey is collecting unopened, complimentary toiletries that travelers receive from hotels and will donate them to Volunteers of America for use at local shelters as part of its Soap for Hope campaign. Donations are being accepted at AAA South Jersey offices in Voorhees (700 Laurel Oak Road), Sewell (508 Hurffville-Cross Keys Road), Millville (2190 North 2nd St.) and Logan Township (525 Beckett Road). Collected items will be given to VOA Delaware Valley’s Housing and Supportive Services Division’s three family emergency shelters: Agape House in Somerville; Anna Sample Complex in Camden; and the Eleanor Corbett House in Glassboro. Two VOA men’s shelters – Amani House in Trenton and the Aletha R. Wright “Vision of Hope” Center in Camden – and the “Home for the Brave” House for veterans in Camden, will also receive collected items. Items being collected include soap, shampoo, lotion, toothpaste, mouthwash, deodorant, shaving supplies, hand sanitizers, and more. People also are encouraged to donate any travel-sized items they may have purchased but have not used.
