SJ Shore Happenings

SJ Shore Happenings It's fun to ride the train at Smithville year round, but it’s extra special to ride it during the Halloween season. Riders four and older are urged to bring their “mummies” and come aboard! Ride the decorated train through the eerie fog while meeting friendly monsters along the way. The train will be running every Friday and Saturday through October 27 from dusk until 9:00 p.m. The event is hosted by Village Green and is located on Moss Mill Rd. Cost is $3.00 and reservations are not necessary. Call (609) 748-6160.

If celebrating Halloween with monsters isn't your thing, maybe you’d rather spend the day at the 11th Annual Pumpkin Festival at Cold Springs Village on Saturday October 20. Everyone in the family will enjoy the great food, fun music, exciting games, and of course, pumpkin painting. There’s also a parade at 1:00 p.m. Be sure to check out the craft show, which will feature country crafts for that special souvenir or gift. The Festival is open 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and is located at 720 Rt. 9. Admission to “Share the Harvest” is $3.00 for adults ($2.00 if you bring a can of food). $1.00 for all children. Rain date is Sunday October 21. Call (609) 898-2300 for more information.

Maybe you'd prefer to celebrate the season as a spectator instead. If so, why not visit the Halloween parade in Sea Isle City? Pull up a lawn chair and enjoy the sounds of The Cape May County String Band, The Original Hobo Band and The Golden Crown New Year’s Brigade. Grab a hotdog and join the post parade promenade at the end of JFK Blvd. Awards will be given for the best costume in several categories: Up to five years old; 6-12 yrs. old; 13 yrs. old and up; and family entries. You might have to get off your chair to join in the dance party, though. The date is October 19 at 7:00 p.m. on Landis Rd. in Sea Isle City. (609) 263-0050.
