Bridgeport Speedway News

Bridgeport Speedway News Bridgeport, NJ – With the late arrival of winter weather here in the northeast, Bridgeport Speedway owner Bill Lincoln has been hard at work, getting the speed plant ready for the 2002 season. The biggest noticeable change will be the complete new racing surface, with over one hundred and fifty truckloads of new clay applied to the five-eighth mile speedway. The new surface is sure to make New Jersey’s fastest dirt track even faster, as the big block modifieds get their American Racer tires hooked up to the new sticky clay. Track owner Bill Lincoln said, ” I’ve heard from a lot of people that we needed clay on the track. We didn’t just add clay; we completely resurfaced the whole track. The trucks have been going in and out of here for two days, with over 150 truckloads of clay laid down on our track. The trucks will keep coming next week, to finish the big track and also surface our reconstructed ¼ mile speedway, which is now located on the front stretch of the big track.”

The moving and reconstruction of the quarter mile oval is the other major project under way. The new ¼ mile oval has been relocated from the backstretch of the 5/8th mile oval to the front straight. The new speedway, which will be run on Friday nights with three divisions of Micro Sprints, is now a full quarter mile oval. The same clay being used on the big track will be used on the ¼ mile, which should really hook up the winged micros and provide even more high-speed action for the mighty micros. Speaking about the new clay which is being used, Track preparation supervisor Harry Ladner said, “The guys should really like this clay. It seems to really hold the moisture and it’s about the cleanest clay we’ve ever put down here. I’ve been looking through it for rocks, and I’ve hardly found any. The speeds of the racers on this surface should definitely pick up, it has such grip to it.” With practice day set for Saturday, March 16th, everyone will want to be there to check out the setups for the new surface.

Pit parking and pit licenses are available now, and also will be available at the Motorsports 2002 Show at the Fort Washington, PA Convention center this weekend, from January 11th through the 13th. After that, purchases may be made by calling the track office during business hours at (856) 467-4408.
