Local Band to Record Live!

Cleverly named from an Edgar Allen Poe poem, Grey Eye Glances consists of lead vocalist Jennifer Nobel (often compared to the likes of Natalie Merchant), Dwayne Keith on keyboards, Eric O’Dell on bass, Brett Kull on guitar, and Paul Ramsey on drums. In 1992, Jennifer, Dwayne, and Eric resided in Camden County. Jennifer grew up in Haddonfield, and Dwayne and Eric met while attending elementary school in Cherry Hill. The three shared a love for making music and decided to fuse their musical talent and form a band. In 1996, the band recruited Philadelphia residents Brett and Paul.
The band shunned the normal in-store appearance marketing approach and decided to promote their music by touring local Borders bookstores, and enjoyed several successful gigs at the Borders in Marlton throughout the 90s. In 1996, the band’s distinctive sound got them a deal with Mercury Records, garnering national recognition. They were also the breakthrough group to use the technique of Internet marketing. By setting up a website--www.greyeyeglances.com--with an interactive fan base, communicating with fans through mp3 music, and hosting a discussion board, the site was able to reach national fans with a personalized experience.
Grey Eye Glances took an innovative approach when producing their new album from a business and creative standpoint. The band’s latest album, titled ‘A Little Voodoo,’ was produced from their own label, which is financed by the group along with 30 of their fans. To keep up with the pace of the corporate world without having to face the hardships, the band formed ‘The Grey Album, L.L.C.’ proving they are not only successful musicians but successful entrepreneurs. The label funds album recording; touring and promotion of the Voodoo album, including national radio airplay; extensive touring; and the availability of the album in music retail chains and on Amazon.com. It was a logical decision for the band to produce an album with people who have a vested interest in their success--the fans.
To make sure they didn’t disappoint their ‘partners,’ the band set to ensure the success of “A Little Voodoo” and planned to write as many songs as possible and work with as many producers as possible to get more creative ideas in the workflow. The album was recorded over six months: two weeks at a time with different respected production teams with the ultimate goal of achieving the distinguished pop sound they enjoy in concert. The method proved a success! The band has toured the West Coast twice and has appeared on radio stations throughout the Midwest and Northeast with their new album.
Now you can get inspired by the musical genius of this South Jersey talent by supporting and even being part of their new album! This benefit concert and live recording is scheduled for 8pm on Friday, April 4, at the Scottish Rite Auditorium, located on 315 Whitehorse Pike in Collingswood. Children under 12 are free; adults are $16. To order tickets, call (877) 916-5862 or click here. For more information on the band, visit their website at www.greyeyeglances.com.
