August at the Aquarium In the August heat, The New Jersey State Aquarium has a wet, wonderful and wild world full of events! Families can enjoy educational adventures featuring workshops, activities and special events highlighting the Aquarium's sharks, penguins, seals and fish!

On Sunday, August 1st, don't miss Kids Day with B101. The kids take charge for the day as B101 and the Aquarium celebrate a day that truly puts kids first. Kids Day will feature a number of fun activities where kids will learn all about the wonderful undersea world, games and prizes that have one theme – kids rule! Come for a day with Buzzbee, B101 music, crafts and games! Kids can sign up to volunteer for various Aquarium positions at the event and be “in charge” for the day. There will be give-aways for the new animated feature “Shark Tale”!

On Friday, August 6th, Eastern Mountain Sports is bringing the adventure of the outdoors to Camden for their EMS Raise the Roof Tour! They’ve literally geared-up a biodiesel fueled tour bus and hit the road with a fully stocked ‘Gearage’ for product demos and a 23-foot tall climbing wall that raises off the rear of the bus. Other activities include product raffles, navigation and wilderness safety clinics, adventure sport challenges, trivia, scavenger hunts and industry tech talk. Staffed by EMS outdoor experts, the EMS Raise the Roof Tour features an on –site web kiosk, an observation deck, a 42” plasma screen for displaying outdoor adventure movies and VIP lounge.

Also on Friday, August, 6th, don't miss the NBC 10! Show Live Broadcast. Watch Amy Freeze dive in the open ocean tank as Bill Henley stays warm, dry and away from the sharks! A live broadcast of the popular NBC show 10! will film from 10am-11am. The show will be airing from exhibits throughout the hour as Amy Freeze and Bill Henley explore the hidden gems of the Aquarium.

August is the perfect month to go back to camp with fond memories of s’mores and sing-a-longs. WXPN Kids Corner is going to recreate that nostalgic feeling for the whole family on Sunday, August 8th from 11am – 3pm at GO FISH! - A Family Day Camp ! Gather round for a rock–n-roll sing-a-long with Ernie and Neal. The Bug Lady, Suzanne Lypka, will bring along fun creepy crawlers from nature for the children to learn about. And for the next weekend getaway, a new tent from EMS will be raffled off to a lucky winner. Three Legged Races will be bring a whole new meaning to “family togetherness” and AI Dupont Hospital will host an Aquarium Scavenger Hunt. A day at camp always ends with ice cream and Turkey Hill will be on site at 2pm with FREE samples. For the creative camper, Mum Puppet Theatre will have a mask making station and Appel Farm will have crafts for all. See Kathy O’Connell from Kids Corner all day; she will host a dive show in the Deep Atlantic Theater at 1:55pm. Kids Corner, A live call-in radio show for kids, is a production of WXPN-FM, public radio from the University of Pennsylvania.

On Sunday, Aug 15th, don't miss Sharkmania. Join B101 and take a bite out of the Aquarium's celebration of sharks. Enjoy dive shows, a shark feeding, crafts, and games that will remind everyone how awesome our popular sea predators are.

Permanent Exhibits
Deep Atlantic Open Ocean Tank: Each day divers swim with the sharks, turtles, stingrays and fish in the Aquarium’s Deep Atlantic open ocean tank. Divers chat with visitors as they swim, helping families learn about life in the ocean.

Seal Shores: The Aquarium’s popular Seal Shores exhibit is home to seven harbor and grey seals, which join the audience for seal shows each day. Visitors can help the seals practice special “tricks” and behaviors for their trainers!

Inguza Island: African Penguins waddle and frolic in the water at the Inguza Island exhibit. The present colony of 17 penguins is rapidly growing as the Aquarium continues its successful breeding program to help the species survive.

C.O.O.L. (Conservation Outreach & Observation Lab): Spectacular exhibits bring visitors face-to-face with fish, birds and animals from Central and South America including toucans, clownfish, sea stars and more.

The New Jersey State Aquarium, located on the Delaware River Waterfront in Camden, is a regional, education attraction with marine life exhibits for visitors of all ages. Leading to a wave of development, the Aquarium is an anchor of the Delaware River Waterfront and is consistently one of the top four most-visited cultural attractions in the Philadelphia region. Aquarium hours are 9:30am until 5:30pm daily. Admission is $13.95 for adults; $10.95 for children; $11.95 for seniors and students with ID; children under 2 are free. The New Jersey State Aquarium will remain open to the public through Labor Day, 2004 after which the Aquarium will close for a renovation and major expansion. The Aquarium will re-open in May, 2005.
