SJ Orgs: Cherry Hill Ed. Fndtn. The Cherry Hill Education Foundation, Inc. is dedicated to supporting various educational programs in the Cherry Hill District. Members include volunteer parents and residents in the community with an interest in the well being of children.

The foundation sponsors activities such as the Annual Academic Banquet, honoring high school seniors who’ve achieved academic excellence and the Bridge-Link Mentoring Program, where middle school students tutor area elementary students in various subjects.

The Annual Academic Banquet recognizes local students’ academic achievements. Since the first banquet in 1998, the banquet wanted to award students who have exceeded academically, similar to a sports awards banquet. During the banquet, Cherry Hill school alumni are invited to speak about the positive influence they’ve received from the Cherry Hill School District. Past speakers included Gino Priolo, a 1991 graduate of Cherry Hill High School East who is now the Principal of the Barclay Early Childhood Center and Russell J. Buono, Ph.D, a former graduate of Cherry Hill High School West who frequently invites Cherry Hill high school students to work in his labs.

The Bridge-Link Mentoring Program has achieved academic success since its inception. Cherry Hill Middle School teachers recruit numerous students with exceptional academic ability in a particular subject. The Cherry Hill Elementary Schools evaluate students to find their challenges in reading, writing or math. Once the students are chosen, the Cherry Hill Education Foundation assigns each middle school student to one or two elementary school students who then meet once or twice per week. Participating students gain leadership skills while helping a younger student to excel in a particular subject. Each year, the program has grown with more tutors helping more students in need.

Other projects completed by the foundation include school beautification projects. In conjunction with Home Depot, the foundation received materials such as mulch, shovels, flowers and shrubs from the store and with the help of several volunteers; they spent the day improving the appearance of the schools.

The foundation raises funds from local corporations such as Subaru of America and through public and private grants. They also solicit funds at their annual golf tournament. The organization always looks for volunteers and contributors for this and other events. If you’re interested in more information, contact (856) 667-6500.

The Cherry Hill Education Foundation cannot run their wonderful programs without the help of volunteers. Volunteers are needed for event planning and coordination, publicity, website maintenance and corporate fundraising.

If you are interested in helping the children by donating/volunteering for Cherry Hill Education Foundation, please contact (856) 667-6500 or visit www.cherryhilleducationfoundation.org.
