Sharks 6-3 Sweep Over Ducks CAMDEN, NJ—September 6, 2001— The Camden Riversharks completed a three-game sweep of the Long Island Ducks in front of 3,948 at Campbell`s Field. Riversharks center fielder Dwight Maness hit his 14th and 15th home runs of the season to lead the Sharks to a 6-3 victory.

The Sharks struck first in the bottom of the second when catcher Guillermo Garcia led off the inning with a double to right field. Garcia advanced to third on a wild pitch by Long Island starter Ray Ricken, before scoring on an error by Ducks third baseman Tom Caputo. The Sharks added another run in the bottom of the third when Dwight Maness crushed a 1-1 pitch over the left field wall. The Ducks rallied to take a 3-2 lead in to the bottom of the fifth, before the Sharks exploded for three runs in the bottom of the inning. Maness finished the day going 3-for-3 with two home runs, three runs scored and three runs batted in. Riversharks catcher Guillermo Garcia chipped in with three hits, one RBI and one run scored.

Riversharks starter Jeff Love went eight strong innings, letting up three runs on five hits, while striking out five and walking three. Love, making only his fifth start of the season, improved his record to 5-5. Jimmy Williams pitched a hitless ninth to pick up his 20th save of the season, which is good enough for second best in the Atlantic League. Long Island starter Ray Ricken took the loss dropping his record to 8-7 for the season. He went seven innings allowing six runs, on seven hits and recorded five strikeouts.

This week the Sharks began a ten-game homestand, beginning with the Ducks (9/4-9/6), then the first-place Somerset Patriots (9/7-9/9) and ending the stand with the Bridgeport Bluefish (9/11-9/13).
