(Altoona, PA)- Carlos Alvarado and Chris Spurling combined on a five-hit shutout as Altoona blanked Trenton, 9-0, on Monday. It was the first time that Trenton had been shutout since July 25th.
The Curve (61-73) broke a 0-0 tie in the 4th Inning with back-to-back RBI triples by Dan Meier and Lee Evans for a 2-0 lead. J.J. Davis added run-scoring hits to complete a five-run inning off Trenton starter Derrin Ebert (7-8).
Trenton (64-71) managed five singles on the night and didn`t get a base runner past 1st base until the 9th Inning. Kelly Ramos had two hits on the night. Luis Garcia went 0 x 3 and had his 16-game hitting streak snapped.
Altoona added four runs in the 5th Inning for a 9-0 lead. The inning included a two-run homer by Davis, his 4th with Altoona this season.
Alvarado (5-6) allowed two hits and one walk over seven innings for the win. he struck out nine on the night.
Trenton and Altoona meet again on Tuesday at 7:05 PM. Josh Garrett (3-5) starts for Trenton against Altoona`s Mike Gonzalez (5-3).
