Tighter Security At Vet
Long before batting practice and the fans arrival, K-9 units swept Philadelphia`s veterans stadium. It`s not there have been any threats against the stadium, but major league baseball is levying an array of new restrictions as play resumes for the first time since the terrorist attacks.
Ed Wade/Phillies G.M.: "People have to understand we`re not going to allow large packages, and smaller bags are going to have to be checked and there are going to be more restrictions of parking around the stadium than there were before." Existing security will be augmented and substantially by Philadlephia police who helped the Phillies in devising a new security plan. Mike Stiles/Phillies Security Head: "Up to three times more uniformed officers outside the stadium and an increase inside as well."
It`s hope these little inconveniences won`t linger beyond the first inning and Americans will finally be able to settle in an enjoy themselves for the first time in nearly a week.
Players have to adjust as well their families no longer can visit them at the clubhouse they`ve had time to adjust having returned to the vet for a wokout Saturday. Tonight will be the fans first test in this new age of awareness but no one`s anticipating any complaints.
