INN Deep Workshop in Cape May All you need to know about acquiring, restoring and operating a Bed & Breakfast Inn will be presented in at the INN Deep Workshop, Sunday, March 17 through Thursday, March 21, 2002. This workshop is being held at the Savannah Key Restaurant in the Marquis de Lafayette Hotel, 501, Beach Drive, Cape May. This four-day series of workshops and lectures, as well as the optional Marketing Seminar, is sponsored by the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts (MAC) and is designed to be valuable for current and also potential innkeepers. Panel discussions are led by knowledgeable Cape May innkeepers so participants learn the tricks-of-the-trade from those who have first-hand experience. Panelists and other participants make themselves available for lunchtime sessions to pursue topics and answer more questions.

Also available this year is the option of a private consulting session with an experienced Cape May innkeeper.

To get the most out of the workshop, it is recommended that you stay at one (or more) of the fine local inns. If you choose to stay at an Inn that is participating in the workshop, you will receive a discount on your workshop registration fees.

Some of the topics that will be covered include: Innkeeping Profiles and Lifestyles--Are you suited for an innkeeping life? Considering the Purchase--Projecting income and expenses, projecting price structure for your region, securing financing, turn-key purchase vs. new B&B. Planning & Executing Renovations--Master planning the perfect inn, government requirements, commercial kitchens, hiring and monitoring contractors. Breakfast: the Perfect Start to the Perfect Day--How, when, what and where to serve; other food options - from wine, tea, dinners, receptions, weddings, to chocolates on the pillow. You and Your Customer--Developing good telephone manners, making your guests feel like company not customers, developing fair policies - deposits, confirmations, cancellations, travel agent policies, credit cards. Computers at the Inn--See how computers work in the inn: reservations, confirmations, websites and more.
