Help Out NJ`s Military Families

by Press Release | Apr 2, 2003
Help Out NJ`s Military Families Camden County officials, in conjunction with the New Jersey Army National Guard, have established collection sites for people who wish to donate prepaid cards for telephone calls, supermarkets, or other stores to distribute to families of American military personnel engaged in Operation Iraqi Freedom or Homeland Security.

The Freeholders, County Clerk James Beach, county Division of Veterans Affairs, Camden County Volunteer Center and the Cherry Hill National Guard Armory - home base for 300 soldiers in three National Guard and two Army Reserve units - have received numerous calls from residents offering to donate money, food - or their own time - to help families cope in the absence of spouses or parents now serving active duty.

After considering various means of support, officials decided to seek donations of the prepaid cards. Receipts will be issued acknowledging the donations. Phone cards will help defray the expense of overseas calls; supermarket and store cards can provide food or other necessities. And with the ongoing TV coverage of the war, video store cards might provide some entertaining distraction for the children.

Special collection boxes are being set up at in the following locations:
County Store, Echelon Mall (Upper Level near Boscov's), Voorhees, NJ Monday-Friday, 10am-9pm, Saturdays 10am-6pm (800) 613-1199
County Store, Cherry Hill Mall (Upper Level near Penney's), Cherry Hill, NJ Monday-Friday 10am to 9pm, Saturdays 10am to 6pm (856) 661-3160
County Store, Commerce Plaza II, 1333 Blackwood-Clementon Rd., Gloucester Township, NJ Monday-Friday, 7am-9pm, Saturday 10am-6pm (856) 782-6130
County Service Center at Winslow, Williamstown Road, Sicklerville, NJ Monday-Friday 10am-7pm, Saturday 10am-2pm (856) 262-3000
Veterans Affairs, 315 S. White Horse Pike, Magnolia, NJ Monday-Friday 8am-4pm (856) 566-7297
After hours, residents may call the Camden County 2-1-1 line.

Additional information is available through SFC Matthew Krug (856-486-2693) at Cherry Hill Armory who will be involved in distributing cards to area military families.
