School Cop Arrested

A police officer working in a South Jersey high school is now facing sexual assault charges.

On Thursday, officials arrested Eric Allen, 28, a five-year veteran of the Galloway Township Police Department. He has been charged with sexual assault and official misconduct

Prosecutors said that Allen had sex with a student several times between February and March. She was 17 at the times of the alleged encounters. He has been suspended from the police department.

Officials said that Allen was assigned to the Absegami High School as a resource officer. He had been at the high school for one year.

The alleged victim is a senior at the high school and just turned 18 years old. The Galloway Township Police Department notified the prosecutor's office of the misconduct last week and Allen was arrested Thursday morning.

Bail was set at $20,000 cash. If he is convicted, Allen faces five to 10 years in jail on each charge.
