Are You "In The Mood" For Great Music?

Celebrate radio personality, Andy Kortman’s second on-air anniversary with 1360 AM WNJC as he hosts a performance by the much sought after Glenn Miller Orchestra on Monday, December 18th at 7:30 pm. With its unique jazz sound, The Glenn Miller Orchestra is considered to be one of the greatest bands of all time and the sounds of the holidays are never as sweet as they are when played by the world’s most popular big band in the world today. “Missing New Orleans,” the third concert in the series, will be presented on Saturday, January 27th at 7:30 p.m. A tribute to the musical heritage of New Orleans, the performance features The Teddy Royal Trio and the Denis DiBlasio and George Rabbi Jazz Quintet. Teddy Royal’s life-long love affair with music began while growing up listening to the music of Wes Montgomery. His work and friendship with the legendary Fats Domino has continued over a thirty-year span of time during which Mr. Royal traveled world wide composing music and recording three of his own CDs. In The Jazz City, writer Jay Mazza states, “ Royal is a special talent who has woven his experiences growing up in Harlem with New Orleans” unique music into a seamless tapestry of tasty jazz.” Rounding out the evening is the Denis DiBlasio/George Rabbai Jazz Quintet. Denis DiBlasio, an internationally known saxophonist and flutist, clinician and educator, toured earlier in his career with the big band of legendary trumpeter Maynard Ferguson, serving as Ferguson’s musical director for five years. Trumpeter George Rabbai first gained recognition as a member of the Woody Herman Band, with whom he toured and recorded. He is the featured soloist on a CD set by Michael Feinstein entitled “Romance on Broadway” and “Romance on Film.” Rabbai released his own CD, “Lemon Drop,” in 1997.
