Ducks blank Surf 6-0

The Ducks opened the scoring in the bottom of the second inning when Juan Bautista singled home Jorge Morales from third to put the Ducks ahead 1-0. They would add another run in the third when Carlos Baerga hit a solo homerun to right-center field off Surf starter Pat Dunham to give the Ducks a 2-0 lead.
Long Island broke the game open in the bottom of the sixth inning, starting with Anton French’s one-out bunt single to first base. French then moved to second on a ground out, stole third, and scored when PJ Williams’ ground ball was mishandled by Surf third baseman George West for an error during the next at bat. With Williams on his way to first, Surf shortstop Enoel Polanco picked up the ball that West bobbled and threw it away for another error that allowed Williams to move to second. Justin Davies followed with a hard hit ball to third that went through West’s legs for another error, allowing Williams to score and giving the Ducks a 4-0 lead. RBI singles by Adonis Harrison and Carlos Baerga in the eighth inning added two more runs en route to the Ducks 6-0 victory.
Jim Bullinger (4-0) earned the victory for Long Island, giving up only one hit in his six shutout innings. Trevor Schaffer and Greg Mix pitched a combined three innings while allowing just one hit. Pat Dunham (0-2) took the loss for the Surf, giving up 4 runs on 6 hits in 5 2/3 innings. With the win, the Ducks raised their record to 24-17, while the Surf fell to 23-18.
