McGreevey Cuts Beach Funding
OCEAN CITY – February 12, 2002 — Proponents of beach replenishment are fuming over Governor McGreevey's plan to cut $25-million in funding for it. Seven state senators have appealed to New Jersey Congressman Frank Pallone for help. They say that reducing shore protection funding would have a devastating long-term effect on both state revenues and local property taxes. Pallone is a supporter of beach replenishment programs, but says the seven senators are trying to make political hay out of his fellow Democrat's decision.
He says McGreevey is leaving enough funding for shore protection to match the federal dollars for beach replenishment projects scheduled in the next fiscal year.
