Man Charged in Dog`s Death

by NBC10 | Oct 30, 2003
Man Charged in Dog`s Death Police in Lower Alloways Creek Township charged a man Wednesday afternoon with abusing a dog so badly with electrical tape that it had to be put to sleep.

The dog, who was named Rusty by animal-shelter workers, was found near the Active Acres farm in Lower Alloway Creek Township in early October.

Because his mouth was bound shut with tape, the dog couldn't eat or drink and had wasted away so much that he had to be euthanized.

Robert Lamano, 25, was charged Wednesday afternoon with misdemeanor animal-abuse charges and one other county charge. He is believed to be the dog's owner, police said.

Lamano faces $5,000 in fines and a maximum of two years in jail.

A south New Jersey animal shelter was besieged with phone calls about an abused dog, and it's believed that a tip call may have lead police to gather enough evidence to proceed with a case. There was a reward of at least $3,000 in the case
