Trenton Thunder News TRENTON – Starting pitcher, Justin Duchscherer, pitched a complete game shut-out, to lead the Trenton Thunder, Double A affiliate of the Boston Red Sox, over the visiting Binghamton Mets, Double A affiliate of the New York Mets, by a score of 9-0 in front of 6,875 at Waterfront Park.

Duchscherer improves his record to 7-8 for the season, as he allowed no runs, on six hits and only one walk, while striking out 10 batters. Jesus Martinez took the loss for the Mets, allowing five runs on six hits, and three walks, while striking out one, and uncorking a wild pitch. He falls to 0-2 on the season.

Duchscherer was supported by a solid offensive effort by the Thunder, as they started the scoring in the first inning, plating home four runs. RJ Johnson lead off the inning for the Thunder with a walk, stole second, and advanced to third on a throwing error charged to Jason Phillips. With Les Dennis aboard via a walk, Virgil Chevalier reached on a fielder`s choice, scoring Johnson, but forcing out Dennis at second. Shea Hillenbrand (3-3) on the night, then singled, and scored with Chevalier on Tony DeRosso`s (3-4, four RBI) nineteenth homerun of the season.

The Thunder put up another run in the third, when they got consecutive singles by Hillenbrand, DeRosso, and Luis Rodriguez. The fifth inning brought in a relief pitcher for the Mets (Derek Root), and after striking out Dennis, he gave up consecutive walks to Chevalier and Hillenbrand. This was followed by a single to center for DeRosso, his fourth run batted in on the evening.

Trenton`s offense produced two more runs in the seventh, as Dennis scored on a Hillenbrand home run, and another in the eighth. The Thunder put together the final run of the game, with two outs, as Garry Maddox walked, and advance to second on a Carlos Leon single. Maddox then scored on a Johnson single to center field. Duchscherer came out to finish the ninth, allowing only one hit. This was Duchscherer`s second complete game of the season, both have which have come against the top two teams in the Northern Division.

The Thunder and Mets play game two of the four-game series tomorrow night, as Chris Reitsma throws for Trenton, looking to improve on his team-best 7-2 record. Binghamton will have Pablo Ochoa (9-10) on the mound, for the 7:05 start.
