Aaron Scheffer (2-2) logged the win, as he pitched two shutout frames, allowing two hits, two walks, and three strikeouts. Andy Hazlett (6-6) suffered the loss, as he gave up three hits, one run, one walk, and no strikeouts in one and one-third innings.
Tony DeRosso smashed his 20th home run to lead off the second inning against Ravens starter Josue Matos, and the Thunder had a 1-0 lead.
Thunder starter Chris Reitsma fired six and tw0-thirds shutout innings until Dwight Maness smacked his 12th homer with two outs in the seventh to tie the game at 1-1.
The Thunder offense would get two men with two outs in the eighth, the bases loaded with two outs in the ninth, and runners at second and third with two outs in the 10th, but came up empty each time.
In the home 10th inning against Hazlett, Blake Barthol and Jermaine Clark singled to begin the inning. Then, Ramon Vazquez singled to leftfield, and Barthol scored to win the game for the Ravens, 2-1.
The win lowers the Ravens` magic number to clinch a playoff spot to six over third place Norwich.
The Thunder (63-71) and the Ravens (76-58) will play again on Monday, August 28. It will be the Thunder`s last road game of the 2000 season. The Thunder will pitch Joel Bennett (4-2) against New Haven`s Allen Westfall (5-5). Game time is set for 7:05 p.m. at Yale Field.
