Pedal-Paddle-Run—The Great Absecon Race

by Press Release | Aug 27, 2007
Pedal-Paddle-Run—The Great Absecon Race It’s time once again to hit the road (and trail and water). The seventh annual “Pedal-Paddle-Run—The Great Absecon Race,” sponsored by Absecon Education Foundation, will take place on Saturday, September 29, 2007. “The Pedal-Paddle-Run brings people from all over the tri-state region,” said Bill Parker, past AEF President and founder of the event. “Each person goes home with a different story to tell but collectively, everyone leaves with a sense of accomplishment. The race is very entertaining for everyone and is spectator-friendly with the help of jitney services that take you from the bay to the park.”

This popular community triathlon takes athletes through historic Absecon, NJ, as they bike six miles both on and off road, kayak 1.5 miles and run the final 2.4 miles of the race. The bike course begins at scenic Heritage Park and winds through the town of Absecon. Following the bike leg, racers take to Absecon Creek by kayak and then back to the road again for a foot race to the dramatic finish in Heritage Park. Participants have the option to compete as individuals in the Ironperson division or in teams of two, three or four. The race begins at 9:00 a.m. Teams can enter in the Family, Teen, Friends, Uniform Services, Corporate and Funniest divisions. The Funniest division is always a sight to behold, bringing out athletes dressed as everything from superheroes to nuns. Race registration is $45 for single Ironperson competitors, $55 for teams of two, $65 for teams of three and $75 for teams of four. Team members must be at least ten years old. Ironperson participants must be 13 or older. Parent or guardian signature is needed for racers under the age of 18. Pre-registered participants will receive free official race T-shirts. The pre-registration deadline is September 13, 2006. Kayaks are available for rent for $10 when you pre-register. Day of the race registration will be held at The Back Bay Café on Faunce Landing from 7:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. Both individuals and teams can find more information and pre-register at “www.parkerandpartners.com ” or “www.active.com.” Racers can also pick up a registration brochure at the Ben Franklin Variety Store located at 150 New Jersey Avenue in Absecon, Absecon City Hall or the Absecon School Board Administration Office. An Award Ceremony with live entertainment immediately follows the race. Tax-deductible sponsorships are available. Proceeds from the event support the Absecon Education Foundation, a non-profit organization devoted to enhancing educational opportunities for the students and residents of Absecon. For more fun, head down to New Jersey Avenue for the Absecon Downtown Fair, or hit the corner of Mill Road and New Jersey Avenue for the Absecon American Legion Annual Beef & Beer.
