Battleship Receives Tourism Award For the second consecutive year, The Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial was presented with an Excellence in Tourism award last week at the 2008 Governor’s Conference on Tourism Awards Luncheon at the Trump Marina Hotel in Atlantic City.

The Battleship New Jersey was honored for their Group Tour packages and combination tickets, which offers youth and adult groups guided tours of our nation’s most decorated battleship, AND tours of other regional attractions and museums, such as Adventure Aquarium and Riverlink Ferry on the Camden Waterfront, the National Constitution Center and Ride the Ducks in Philadelphia, the Tropicana Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City and the Ritz Theater in Haddon Township, NJ. The programs allow groups the convenience of purchasing a single ticket for multiple venues as well as offering them a discount off their admission to the museums and attractions.

“Tour packages allow visitors convenience and cost-savings, making their experience of New Jersey, and, in this case the Battleship and their venue partners, much more impactful,” said Nancy Byrne, Executive Director of the New Jersey Office of Travel & Tourism.

The 2008 Governor’s Conference on Tourism is a joint venture hosted by the New Jersey Department of State, Division of Tourism and Travel and the New Jersey Travel Industry Association. The awards recognize attractions and organizations that executed outstanding programs to generate tourists to the Garden State. The award recipients were greeted by New Jersey Secretary of State Nina Mitchell Wells and Nancy Byrne. Governor Jon Corzine also spoke to all attendees during the annual Governor’s Luncheon.

“We are proud to accept this award from the tourism professionals of the State of New Jersey,” said Troy Collins, CEO and President of the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial. “It’s an honor to see adults and children explore and learn about this amazing battleship and about the men and women who sacrificed so much to build, restore, maintain and provide tours of this great ship.”

Berthed on the Camden Waterfront across the Delaware River from Center City Philadelphia, the Battleship New Jersey Museum and Memorial is a non-profit historic ship museum that offers guided and self-guided tours daily. The Battleship New Jersey allows visitors a variety of ways to experience the ship, including overnight encampments for youth groups and families, special group and student tours, and event rentals with a full catering menu. Now open: The Brig, Barber Shop and Laundry Facility. Ride NJ Transit’s Riverline to the Battleship New Jersey. Visit www.riverline.com for fares and schedules.
