The Parrotheads Are Coming, for a Cause

by Press Release | Jul 8, 2008
The Parrotheads Are Coming, for a Cause Die-hard Jimmy Buffet fans, including the South Jersey “Flock,” will take over Taylor’s in Cherry Hill Aug. 16 for a day of Buffett tunes and Margaritaville-inspired food and beverages. The goal is to raise awareness of Memory Walk 2008, the Alzheimer’s Association Delaware Valley Chapter’s annual fund-raiser on the Atlantic City Boardwalk.

The Parrothead Party is open to all previous walkers, those who may be interested in participating this year, and the general public. Admission is $20, which goes to the Delaware Valley Chapter. In addition to great music and a fun atmosphere, the event will feature a Chinese Auction and themed games. The concert and party go from 1-6 p.m.

“This should be a really fun event, particularly with the South Jersey Flock of the Parrotheads performing,” says South Jersey’s Executive Director Linda Coppinger. “We expect this to help build a lot of buzz for the main event…the Memory Walk on Oct. 5.”

South Jersey’s Memory Walk this year moves to Kennedy Plaza on the Atlantic City Boardwalk, located across from Boardwalk Hall between Mississippi and Georgia avenues. As in the past, participants will be asked to solicit donations for the 5K walk, and Alzheimer’s Association gives them the tools for customized, online fundraising.

Every 71 seconds, someone in the United States develops Alzheimer’s disease. More than 5.2 million nationwide are coping with its devastating effects.

The Delaware Valley Chapter covers 18 counties in South Jersey, Southeastern Pennsylvania and Delaware, serving more than 294,000 individuals with Alzheimer’s disease or a related disorder.

For more information, call the 24 hour helpline at 800-272-3900 or visit the chapter website at www.alz.org/desjsepa.
